    Hats and social media

What do you all think if the impact of social media on hats? I, like most of you probably, see all these ads on Facebook (almost more than actual posts) hat "companies" selling cool looking hats but they rarely disclose that they are made from wool. Some of them claim to be fur felt but they're...

    Akubra Overload

They don't offer fawn anymore. I can't remember the exact name but it's a light brown.

    Akubra Overload

I went to buy a new tan Campdraft and I see they no longer exist. I'm pretty fed up with Akubra at this point. Everything I like they stop making.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

I've been wearing my Campdraft a lot lately. It's easier to wear than a western.

    Show us their hats!

I've always wondered if it was the same hat from the beginning. It looks like a totally different hat from the early black and white seasons to the later seasons. Could be just wear and tear but it's difficult to tell. The medical tape thing is cool to know, that's what I kind of thought it was...

    Show us their hats!

The very hat that got me into hats in the first place as a young teenager well over 20 years ago watching Gunsmoke. The show was new to me at the time but I saw Festus Haggen sitting on a log by the fire. At that very moment I thought, that's all I want out of life right there. I just want to be...

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

I finally got around to finishing my Sunrise medium weight felt. I used old stock cotton rayon for the ribbon. This is my 2nd or 3rd bow that I've ever done, it looks good enough for that. One trick I've been using is wetting the body and baking it in the oven on the block at a low setting until...

The Hat From "There Will Be Blood"?

    I love that! Perfect.

    Western, anyone?

Resistol Stagecoach that I reshaped and added a kettle curl. The original sweatband was in great shape so I didn't block the crown, just reshaped it. I used vintage cotton/rayon ribbon and went with a simple bow since it was my first real attempt at making a bow.

    Who makes good sweatbands?

I wanted to update I purchased a sweatband from Finevintagefedoras on Etsy and I'm pleased with it. I'll be ordering more.

    Who makes good sweatbands?

I'm glad someone else is conscious of this. I mean, the hat bodies I've handled lately are heavy, even after pouncing, pouncing right into the shellac core, and then some, they're still thicker and heavier than I prefer and certainly thicker and heavier than any of my vintage hats. Or even any...

    Who makes good sweatbands?

I've tried most of the main sellers on etsy except some of the over seas due to high shipping costs. Someone sold me one or two on here, they were basically the same as any other I've bought. Nice quality and workmanship but thick leather and large reed tape. There was one on etsy that was just...

    Who makes good sweatbands?

I'm getting frustrated trying to find decent sweatbands. Why are they all so thick and heavy and why are the reeds getting bigger and bigger? Some of these sweatbands weigh as much as the hat body itself! The reed should be barely noticeable. Instead they're getting to almost comic proportions...

Sunrise Hat Company felt (nutria) and hatters’ tools

I received my 160 gram body in natural today. I like it quite a bit. It's nicely soft and malleable. Easy to bend and snaps back into place fairly well. I'm looking forward to working with it. I'm shooting for a little under 6" crown with a little under 3 1/2" brim. There seems to be adequate...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

I took my home brew Sunrise nutria felt kayaking on the Wapsi River today. It was a long trip and I'm worn out. My 70 year old mother went along and kicked butt. She had bloody legs by the end from knocking against her sit inside kayak. She was determined to make the trip with us and I'm so...

What hat do you wear most (and why)?

Over the last year it's mainly been my Akubra Bushman. It's small enough to fly under the radar yet provides decent shade. It's light weight and looks ok with cargo shorts and flip flops which I live in during the summer.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Excuse the nudity but I took my home brew nutria fishing with me. Didn't catch anything but itchy nipples from the sun.

Sunrise Hat Company felt (nutria) and hatters’ tools

From my experience, the western weight natural is also a little on the limp side but it does have a somewhat ok amount of sanppy-back-in-placey. It just lags a little. My main complaints are the thickness and weight. I ended up tearing down and reblocking one of mine. I wanted to try and make it...

Photographs Of Hats Fresh From Surviving The Elements
