    Lipsticks: The mattiest matte

I used to be a fan of Kat Von D matte lipsticks, but Colourpop ultra matte lip liquid lipsticks are so much better. They genuinely last all day and are a fraction of the cost of Kat Von D’s. https://colourpop.com/collections/liquid-lipsticks

    Agony column?

Sorry to hear you're so run off your feet Johanna. Maybe a nice long soak in a tub might help you relax, or even better drink a martini while you're having a bath? Failing that a bathtub full of martinis should definitely do the trick :) Lisa Edit - are these the Revlon matte lipsticks you...

    Out Your Back Door

Here's the view from our recently purchased beach shack, it's a little one bedroom home that backs onto national park and is less than 5 minutes from the beach. I thought I'd post a pic of the local kookaburras too, they turn up almost everyday demanding to be fed!

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Almost every home in Australia has a rotary clothes line (this is my backyard). I don't understand why anyone would turn their nose up at them (apart from snobbery). As my father in law says, "There's nothing shameful about clean clothes"

    Nothing but Seamed Stockings

I've bought Pamela Mann seamed tights & stockings & were happy with them (given the price) I see they are cheaper than the Dita day stockings (but postage to the US might end up being more expensive). Anyway, here's the link to the website https://pamelamann.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=jive...

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

Congrats on meeting your weight loss goal. Have you considered real vintage shoes? I only seem to find tiny sizes, so you might be able to pick up a few pairs more easily than other ladies with much bigger feet (ahem that would be me). Here's a website that sells new old stock shoes. The...

Anyone else interested in trying out ration dieting?

Here's a link to a vegetarian wartime cookbook (published 1942). I've tried a few of the vegetable stew recipes & the bran biscuits (which were excellent). From the introduction, "Correct diet is like the key to a garden; it is essential as a means of entering the garden, but it is not an end in...

Anyone else interested in trying out ration dieting?

There's a lady on Facebook who is following the ration diet, she eats about 5oz of meat per week. Take a look at her page, it's quite interesting. Lots of recipe ideas https://www.facebook.com/rationbookchallenge2015/?fref=ts

    Lunch, Anybody?

I'm meeting Dad & my step Mum for lunch at their local pub, so I'l be having a chicken schnitzel or a fish & chips or a steak. I haven't decided yet, but either way I won't be having much for dinner :)

Name your favorite films based on true stories.

In Cold Blood, Breaker Morant, Che (part 1), An Angel at my Table, Newsfront and because it was the first full length feature film ever made (and Australian to boot) The Story of the Kelly Gang.

    What's For Breakfast...

Sour dough toast with the last of the bacon jam (that I made batches of to give away as Christmas gifts, and kept a little for myself).

    Healthy, delicious Golden Era recipes

Here's link to 9 Canadian wartime cookbooks. I thought the "How to eat well though rationed" book was particularly good. I'm going to try out the Sour Cream Cake this afternoon.

Children's Books of the Golden Era

My favourite childhood book was "Ameliar-Anne and the green umbrella" (by Constance Heward & delightfully illustrated by Susan Beatrice Pierce. First published 1920). Ameliar-anne's brothers and sisters can't go to the Squire's tea party but she thinks of an ingenious way of taking some treats...

    Australian Womens Weekly online

Hello Ladies, The lovely people at the National Library of Australia have digitised every single issue of the Australian Womens Weekly from 1933 to 1980. I could spend hours looking through these. The frocks! The hairdos! The handy home hints! http://trove.nla.gov.au/aww/covers?year=1941

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The Dressmaker. I enjoyed it very much. The storyline is somewhat surreal, but the performances were fantastic & the frocks, oh the frocks! Australian humour can be very dry & I'm not sure how well it will translate to the US market, but it's definitely worth a look, if only to see Kate Winslet...

Ladies, what are you doing this evening?

Lizzie I hope you're feeling better. Well it's Halloween tonight, so I'll be handing out candy & watching a few horror movies later on.
