What's something modern you won't miss when it becomes obsolete?

Cancelled my online news subscription. They wanted to tailor my content to the articles I read. That's not just a matter of giving me different news to the next guy, but monitoring what content I consume and when. Goodbye forever! A large percentage of websites are now broken on my browser...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Still wearing the same very humble collections of hats and caps. However, today was one of the hottest days of the year so far, which meant the Failsworth Henley got it's first proper test. (old pic) The sun was beating down, but there was a breeze at times too, so it was tested in terms of...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

The newly oiled nubuck safari got its first outing in the rain today. Only fairly light drizzle to be fair, but it kept the specs clear. It looks like water marks will still show on this, but that'll just add to the "weathered" look. It is a "working" hat after all.

    Walking Sticks & Canes.

I'm one of the walking stick owners for whom function comes first. I cannot get around safely without one. Consideration number one, is if I stumble, will it catch me? All the prettiness, elegance, artistry, and craftsmanship, is of no compensation to me if the answer to that question is no. I...

Deciding where to draw the line

I've done the boat thing. A hole in the water that you try to fill with cash. It was fun, but I don't miss it. I could have probably bought a house with what that thing cost me over the years. Golf clubs were a near miss for me. I did get some, and give it a whirl, but never got bitten by the...

Deciding where to draw the line

The nubuck safari finally got oiled today. Big difference from new. I'll give it a few days to soak in, then decide if it needs a second coat or not.

What Pipe Tobacco Are You Smoking Today ?

For the most part, I steer clear of Latakia and Cavendish. I don't mind a little bit of them in a blend occasionally, but too much can very easily spoil a blend for me. Give me a "middle of the road" tobacco any day. I quite like toppings if they're topped Virginia, or Virginia/Burley. Again...

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Oh, I have several hats, in wool, cotton, fur, and leather, they're just all at the lower price end of the spectrum.

Thanks buddy. Me too. That's why I'm here :D

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

No offence taken, Brent. I get it, I really do. I know I'm a token outsider in this realm, and don't expect many here to see things through my eyes. I also don't ever expect to wear out a hat. Even a cheap one. I expect "life" to happen. Some scroat nicks it, a gust of wind has it outrun me, I...

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

I was happy to pay for a hat at roughly half of Christy's usual retail price, but would be rather reluctant to pay full price, never mind two to four times the cost. I fully appreciate that other folks will take a very different stance. I would also expect that other people here have...

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

That's one of the reasons I like cotton so much, the affordability. I won't pay that much for a hat. Even my new Christy Epsom fur only cost £62 delivered. Most of my hats have been under £40, and will give me many years of service.

Deciding where to draw the line

I think it was imprinted in my DNA at birth. I had a biker jacket many (30+) years ago, but outgrew that, and gave it to my brother. I think I bought this current box jacket between 15 to 20 years ago, and it still goes around my steadily expanding "hunch front". Then again, it's very rarely...

Deciding where to draw the line

Leather jackets are MUCH easier. I just have one, and that's plenty for me :)

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

My hats do get noticed, but don't draw many comments. Sometimes I can see them thinking about saying something, but they never quite get there. However, having hair to the bottom of my ribcage, a gorilla face mask for the pandemic, and a 5" goatee protruding from the bottom of it, the hat might...

Deciding where to draw the line

A few decent looking and affordable hats crossed my radar recently, and I proudly refrained on all of them. I'm feeling really quite content with my humble array at present. All the sun hats, brimmed and peaked, have all been tested over the last couple of weeks, and I've no complaints with any...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

If I could give this post more than one like, I'd give it three. One for the job well done, one for keeping such a "well travelled" hat in gainful employment, and a third for posting it amongst all the pristine hats so often seen here.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Rotations. This is completely petty, utterly irrational, and on every logical level, I should be able to just accept that some folks use this word differently than I do. Yet, I can't. I can do it with plenty of other words, but not this. It's one of those things that really grates on me, WAY...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Forced myself to pick up something other than the Brazilian tarp hat for the garden today. I went for this Jaxons safari. Yes, another cotton hat. They're dominating my usage at the moment. Great hat for the garden, but way too large for out and about.
