panel seam finish on 1930's sheer gown
Pfft...what a silly I am. I totally posted the wrong link in my earlier post.
Since then I have done a ton of research and know what I need to know for the most part....HOWEVER...i am wondering the best way to finish the panel seams on a sheer gown...
Silk wedding gown......
Hi there ladies!
I am making a buddy's wedding gown and haven't handled lightweight fabrics in a long time. The dress will be made of silk chiffon or crepe de chine. I would love to get my hands on a cheap fabric that is similar in sewing difficulty so I can start...
Here's Advance 6955. First dress I've made for someone else. :) It's a good feeling.
P.S. Thanks Lauren and LD for the fabric advice...I think it turned out okay afterall. :)
Thanks, Lauren....reading that makes me feel better :) I tried to match along the front center and it is off by a centimeter or so...which I am sure she probably won't notice, but of course drives me crazy. :) Perfectionism, man. It's a real killer. Cheers! I will post a pic when I am done in...
Ugh! Help me please! :)
I am making a dress for someone and she picked this fabric.....Can I make a buttoned shirtwaist with a diagonal fabric? Do i just need to get creative? Because right now I feel like i am reinventing the wheel. (You can see the selvage on the left side of the photo.)...
Love the bust darts in that dress!! You gals are making such pretty, pretty pieces.
Hepkitty inspired me to make Butterick 5603. I whipped it up yesterday!
Thanks!! I used a quilter's cotton and went down one pattern size....no alterations and it went together pretty quickly. Can't wait to toodle around in it on my bicycle in it tonight! :)
The Art and Craft of Hairdressing by Gilbert Foan---mine is from the mid thirties. This book is awesome. Over 500 pages of swanky beauty tidbits and info. I've spent hours pouring over my copy. Sadly, it is going bye-bye to add to my Christmas fund (you can find it on a major bidding...
You might try raising the hem a couple inches so the bottom of the skirt hits right at your knee....then you can show off your shapely legs! :) I raised the hemline on a few dresses/skirts and felt they looked more flattering, and then found myself wearing them more often. Just to the...
Ouch. That's gorgeous. Yeah, things have been kinda crazy expensive out there. It's been awhile since I've purchased a pattern, and I think it will be awhile longer. I have enough to last me.....well.....forever. :) I'm even thinking of deleting my ebay ID.
She lacked depth. I have a hunch she is not as strong an actor as RDJ. There was no mystery in her portayal, and very little chemistry between the two of them. To be fair, I have not seen her in very many things so I am unaware of her range.
Here HERE. He is one hot potato. A friend of a friend just filmed a movie with him and they got to MAKE OUT and stuff! Wheeee!!!
And Marlon Brando ALWAYS gets me. That scene in Streetcar where he is eavesdropping on Stella and Blanche in his little overalls....and then smiles when they see...
I saw them at the Smithsonian circa 1988, and too was blown away by how little they were...and how "not sparkly" they were. The lighting was kinda bad, so to me, at the time, they just looked old. But I was expecting major glitz, guarded by winged fairies and armed munchkins. It was a...
I loved it too.....I went with very low expectations, as I was terrified it would be one of those dreadful classic storylines.....with rock music. :)
It's cool that this story began *after* Holmes and Watson had established their relationship; I think a prelude in the future would be...
:offtopic:
I did not know the ruby slippers were "Shoes by Adrian." That is so wonderful. He was the man. Seriously. If a movie says "Gowns By Adrian" I know i am in for a treat!
The big coffee table book of his on amazon is a stunner, by the way.
My boss equates it to someone tearing apart an heirloom quilt to make "something better." Basically, taking a treasure and turning it into eventual landfill. (Not that patterns don't sometimes wind up in landfills....but I would imagine kitchy ca-ca makes up a larger percentage.)
