Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

my boyfriend always teases me about styling myself 'retro'. er, it's not retro, it's vintage - geddit? I did my makeup 1930s style the other night and added a beauty mark between near my nose and eye. his response? "what's that black dot on your face?" [huh] but last weekend when I was...

    foam rollers vs velcro rollers?

thanks, PS! will give it a go! just curious, what are curl clips? I'm wondering if it would work if I did a wet set with velcro rollers in the morning, left it to dry all day and then took it out that night? invest in some lottabody. it seriously is the best thing since sliced bread.

so how does one secure velcro rollers with clips? do you secure it to your hair underneath the bottom of the roller or do you clip the rollers together? can you stick roller pins through them?

    foam rollers vs velcro rollers?

I slept in my foam rollers last week and my hair curled fabulously, but because they have a clamp to secure them I ended up with dents in my hair (not a good look at the front). how can I avoid this? should I sleep in velcro rollers instead? and is there any way to secure either type of...

what have you lost and can't get back?

after my grandmother died I was allowed to go through her jewellery and take whatever I wanted. I found the most stunning vintage early 50s necklace and earrings set made of blue crystal. I wore them a few times but because the earrings are screw ons they hurt my ears, so I always ended up...

    1940s leisurewear

I promise I've done searches but unfortunately haven't been too successful. I want to know what kind of clothes women wore to be more casual in the mid-late 40s. the only things I can really find are wide leg pants. is this period-correct?

    Favorite Military Quotes

churchill is my all time favourite orator. here are my favourites: 'Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, "This was their finest hour." ' 'Never in the field of...

acquiring a vintage 40s wardrobe - what pieces do I need?

thanks to everyone for all your help. after doing some more research I'm pretty sure that a fusion of mid-late 40s and New Look is more what I'm going for. I work in an office so it won't be hard for me to incorporate this into my work wardrobe. I'm not too keen on really full skirts or dresses...

acquiring a vintage 40s wardrobe - what pieces do I need?

ok, after buying my very first pencil skirt last weekend (embarrassing, I know) I'm inspired to start putting together a vintage inspired wardrobe. I don't really want to have an entire wardrobe full of vintage pieces as this is way out of my budget and is very time consuming to acquire, not to...

How often do you "set" your hair?

how about klorane dry shampoo? I think bumble and bumble also do one. I just used talcum powder when I had blonde hair but now that I'm brunette it's harder.

    vintage cosmetic companies

I love bourjois because they originally started in the late 19th century as makeup suppliers for stage performers. so their stuff has good staying power and is great for dramatic looks.
