open crown with the hatbox, it was bashed & torn on the bottom when it arrived, thank goodness the lid was pristine though.
trying it on before the bash, great fit!
loose front pinch on test bash
I went with a six point bash with tight front pinch
I don't know why...
I like the dimensions of this lid but the leather sweatband & ribbon treatment deteriorated so it needs replacement ... the ribbon on it now is from another lid [huh] they tend to migrate from hat to hat in this house  I need to order a couple of sweatbands from Aaron soon ...
I already stripped it of the shiny leather ribbon treatment, I have a one inch slate color grosgrain ribbon for it, this hat is pristine & my first Akubra now I just need to borrow UWS Cowboys' scissors to convert it. ;)
The brim is 3.25" .. open crown is 5.5", bashed to a 4.25 front & 3.5"...
The office gang and I are off to get some lunch ... what are you guys going to have? I'm thinking since it's casual Friday that'll we'll try the new Thai place down the block.
It hit 74 degrees today but when I went to work this morning at 6 am it was 40 degrees ... so I wore a wool coat with a lined suede shirt and a performance tee shirt [NorthFace sweat-wicker] & I was very comfortable with my light weight felt hat. By noon it started getting warmer, tomorrow...
I got home after work and this was waiting for me ... a vintage Beaver Hats 100% fur hat. specs on it are: size 7 1/8 with a 5" crown, 7/8" black grosgrain ribbon, 3" flat brim with no curling at all and is really stiff. The leather sweatband is pristine but the lining is missing, I reckon this...
Finally scored a Stetson Sovereign Open Road in my size .... this was a mess but the leather sweat was still supple so it was still serviceable .. the ribbon on the other hand was cut by the original or last owner, I guess he didn't like the tails [huh] The hat is incredibility soft and light...
I been trying to get a hat block in my size off eBay for a little while now but it usually goes to high for my liking. Some of you have been following my hat fixing/shaping craziness ... what can I say, I dig the challenge & it's fun plus I get the satisfaction of wearing my finished project. I...
So this was waiting for me when I got home tonight .... HUGE BOX!!! .... I got it out and it was in dire need of a dusting...brushing...dunking in cold water. It cried out please keep me a western, so I had to oblige... sort of.
I mean I'm a Metropolitan type of fella and can not be a Western...
I got one earlier this week so as a primer project I worked on a wool that I really didn't care if I screwed up on. It was a beautiful day but I was still a bit hung over from last nights bar crawling escapades. A Twin Peaks Marathon is on Chiller so I had it on while I worked on the lid, gotta...
What is the hat that he is wearing when he comes in to the lot?

I got this one a while ago & it needed some tender loving care ... the sweat & lining was loose, so were the bow & ribbon. I just finished sewing them back on a little while ago ... then I steamed & creased it with my usual pinched telescope teardrop, I really need to expand my repertoire ...
Just a redo from a botched porkpie... I made a bow & ribbon treatment that was was too heavy for the lid. It looked great but it was off proportionally that I couldn't wear it in public. The thing is this was my only blue hat [hint hint my B'day is in March & I wear a 7 1/8 LO :D ] if anyone is...
I picked up this vintage Bianchi in olive green on the cheap & it has the thinnest brim I ever seen... like a skullcap with brim, hah!
lite weight grosgrain sweat .. pristine lining .. top view
front .. back -- side views
not too sure about this one ... this may be the wear around...
Can anyone tell me anything about Jack Lord, not the actor from Hawaii Five O --- but the hat maker or is he one and the same? Would not be much of a stretch if he had a love of hats & started a second career as a hatter, but the seller said that this is a circa 1940's, but we all embellish...
So I acquired this from eBay, it was part of a lot of two .. this one is the Schoble Idler and it was much less than good in condition ... it had holes from mothing & nibbles all over the outside top of the crown ... the leather sweatband was intact with just slight hardening where the threading...
So here we are again, the TownCraft OR clone in Silverbelly arrived yesterday ... Whoah Howdy Partner! Definitely a western hat that was stiff as a board .. I thought to my self ... "self, there is no way in hell I'm going be able to unbash this hat" ..... self was wrong!
I tried to steam it...
