    I love the Fed IV!!

Yes, I agree completely. Since I started balding and began to trim my hair to 6mm, the liners have got grimy faster. Relatively easy to fix (at least mostly) by tossing it into the washing machine every now and then, but a darker colour would help with the visuals.

    I love the Fed IV!!

It's been about 9 years since I posted here last (time flies!) and I can no longer remember how long I've had this hat, but I guess about 15 years or very soon so. I tend to switch between hats (Fed IV deluxe in the profile photo here, I see), but since winter is the longest season around here...

    Is my head shrinking?

They have a separate sizing table for the Federations at Hatsdirect. Or at least they did when I bought my Federations from them a few years back.

    Any writers?

I never know whether I should call myself an aspiring writer or a writer. I have some textbook-y research publications under my belt and I've also written sort of fan-fic in the past. I'm also been writing a novel set in the early 17th century for a couple of years now (who doesn't love...

NEWBIE: I need help finding a fedora

This is very true. People who do not wear hats cannot make out the difference between a cowboy hat and a fedora, for example. I've had to correct several of my co-workers on the issue (they thought that since I spent a year in Canada, the hat that I had begun wearing must be a cowboy hat). Even...

    Straw hat recommendation?

Straw hats will not hold rain very well. But you could try some of Akubra's straw hats, or perhaps even their poly-straw hats that will certainly withstand rain with no worries (Capricorn is popular). Personally, I have good experiences with the Balmoral (hemp braid) - it looks good and does not...

Whats your favorite Hat for warm weather

You missed hemp braid, as in Akubra Balmoral...

    Epic hat destruction

The Flume of Doom it is, then! (and thank you for teaching me a new word!) Indeed, it is hemp braid. I guess I can try the iron at it carefully to see how it behaves.

    Epic hat destruction

I had thought that method only applicable to felt hats, but perhaps I was mistaken?

Uh, that must have hurt when it happened! My story suddenly pales in comparison... :/

    Epic hat destruction

I must say that I felt miserable for quite a while after the accident as I tried to reshape it and restore it as much as I could. But, yes, at least I now have a hat I can use without fear in all sorts of situations! :)

Akubra Federation IV Standard or Deluxe?

I prefer the deluxe, but I've only seen the black variant of the standard (to compare with my brown and fawn Deluxe models). I found the felt softer and smoother in the Deluxe model and the Heritage Fawn is a very unique and great colour which only comes in Deluxe. The price difference is a bit...

    Epic hat destruction

I'm sad to say that one of my hats got into an accident last weekend. The hat in question was an Akubra Balmoral and it flew off my head during this descent at an amusement park (stupid mistake to wear it in the first place when I had to protect both my daughter and my hat as well as hold onto...

    Akubra Overload

Oh, sorry to see the Kokoda go, but happily I got one of them already. And my wife already has an Ascot, so we are safe in that regard. I hope they are just making room for new models.

    Federation IV sizing

Don't try to upload here - just post to photobucket and link the picture from there.

    Reblocking?

They are indeed stiffer than hell. My first hat was a licensed wool felt Indy hat. I did not learn the lesson but bought the ful-felt variety next. It was better than the wool felt, but hard as plywood. My third hat was an Akubra Federation IV Deluxe and I've never looked back. Mind you, I...

What type of plastic are hat brims made of?

Whoa, I was horrified by the idea of hat brims made of plastic there for a moment, until I realised that the question was about caps...

    The Perfect proportioned fedora?

That primer is an excellent source, and the main message it will tell is that you cannot combine the styles of the three decades in one hat. Akubra's Federation IV, for example, would work as a 30's and early (perhaps even late for some manufacturers) 40's hat, but it would not do as a 1950's...

    Still Life with Hats . . .

I've posted this before, but here's my life (except for the live people): (if it doesn't show, please tell me - I'm trying to link direct from Facebook album)

    My first "real" hat.

Ah, let your wife know that she made a good choice! :) And post pics when you get it!
