Would some of you join me...?

Sincere thanks to you all for your thoughts and good wishes. It really does help lift the spirit.

Would some of you join me...?

In raising a glass to my father? He passed away last week after a period of illness. Had his funeral on Friday. Miss him loads but now possess some very nice hand tools & some rather wonderful ties & waistcoats. So, if you don't mind... To Robert, to Roy, to Dad. Rest easy.

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

And again, pop culture has always moved at the fastest rate possible. With only those elements of what has gone before that "the masses" enjoy retained. Injineer's young friend plays Django, if he keeps that up for a decade or so he'll be playing century old music! Not a bad innings...

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

It has always followed exactly the same pattern, pop culture moves as quickly as the means to provide something new and have it propogate allows.

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

It's what we've always done with pop culture. It's the nature of the beast. Since crude notation or "by ear" playing had to be delivered on foot across the known world, through industrial printing to the phonograph, AM radio, MTV to the internet.

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

Okay, well then I would say that the currency of popular cuture is directly relatable to the speed and pervasiveness of the media which delivers it. The longer it takes for a critical mass of people to hear a tune the longer it will last in pop culture, the less that people are exposed to a...

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

Quite, but then it is a case of simply not being fascinated by an era rather than being unaware of it or having had it wiped from their consciousness. As far as the 60s go, younger folk will know the Beatles and the Stones, maybe not John's Children or The Mannish Boys, same for any other era.

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

And although you'll have to take my word for it, I'm currently watching "The Chase" a UK quiz show, a contestant has just been asked to "Complete the title of the Cab Calloway composition, Minnie the ......." and, after a pause he answered correctly. I'd say he's in his 30s. So the...

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

I honestly can't agree with that, U.S. popular music of the 1920's & '30s is recognised by todays youth. From it's role in the soundtrack of video games to the preponderance of "Gatsby Parties", "Glamour Balls" & "Speakeasy Nights" amongst the student set to those who follow Nucky's fortunes on...

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

It was quite heavy at first, a lot of it revolved around racial issues, but then moved on in line with real history, the major change being that Holly had made popular a relatively conservative strand of Rock 'n' Roll that owed less to blues musicians and more to country musicians. It's a long...

That's my theory blown out of the water!

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

Fabulous list but very American and from an era just before the US came to dominate the popular music industry. I have Playstation 3 games with one or two of those titles in the soundtrack... Try and find anything from a '20's/30's British Dance band outside of a specialist retailer. Not...

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

There's an argument which follows the line of reasoning that the "swing era" was the last era of truly popular music, before the term "pop" was even coined. It's arguable, and I've even argued it a few times, that it was the last period in history when several generations would have listened...

Some of them are rather "British" but certainly the likes of the Cure were global names. Horses for courses.

What modern invention/innovation do you wish had *never* been developed?

Good Lord... The Smiths, The Cure, J&MC, New Order, Nick Cave, Pixies, Wedding Present, The The, The Fall, Aztec Camera, Talulah Gosh, Primal Scream, Cocteau Twins... I could go on at some length. :)

How would you earn a living?

Y'see I'd have said similar, but as I discovered, quickly, in the early nineties, if it doesn't have a red star on it or a fondness for Sergei Eisenstein films, I can't develop an interest.

First TV show you ever watched (and can recall)

    Probably Romper Room on UTV.
