I do use a stand that hangs the brush with the handle up and business end down. I've used it for about 30 years. As I recall, it wasn't expensive and I suspect it has prolonged the life of my brush. It's a very simple plastic deal, but I have no idea now where I got it.
Supplementing post 983, I recently treated myself to a new Plisson brush. Had one for years, and now I have one again. It'll probably be the brush I use for the rest of my life.
Used up the Taylor's soap I had on hand and have been using Art of Shaving sandalwood. It also lathers well, but I...
I've used hard cake shaving soap with a silver tip badger brush for many years. About a year ago, I finally upgraded to the fine English soaps, and have most recently been using Taylor of Old Bond Street, sandalwood scent. I think there is a difference. I can get a very thick, rich, creamy...
Actually, according to the makers of the brushes I've been using for the last 40 years, I'm using badger hair, not badger bristle. I favor silver tip badger and have just treated myself to a new Plisson brush made from what they call high mountain white badger. I bought a Plisson brush in Paris...
Lately I've been using Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving soap. It seems to provide an excellent, lubricating lather. With a good grade badger hair brush I work up a thick, rich, creamy lather without too much water and lay it on my face over some wetter lather that I had previously worked in...
Except I don't see any grenade rings ("D" rings on the belt to hang grenades from).
They are also for securing the straps of anything you might want to carry on a strap slung over your shoulder. The "Marks & Sparks" version seems to have epaulets, but I can't tell if they are working epaulets...
I have finally invested in another Burberry. I bought one in the early '70s and gave it hard use -- dragging it around Europe a few times. It gave me years of fine service.
About a month ago, my wife and I were in the Burberry store in San Francisco, and much to the chagrin of my banker I...
The definitive trench coat is, of course, the Burberry. It is, however and regrettably, very far from inexpensive. I bought one in the early '70s, and did not treat it kindly -- dragging it around Europe a couple of times. Nonetheless, it gave me excellent service for many years.
I just now...
I carry whenever I legally can. I'm partial to a strong side hip holster -- inside the waistband type. My current choice is a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2.
I find I can conceal my pistol quite well under a jacket or, in hot weather, a light vest. Here I am in Sedona, Arizona wearing an H&K...
Interesting thread, and great collection Jimmy.
I make it a point not to count some of the things I have, like hats, pairs of shoes and fountain pens. I find that knowing how many of something I have inhibits future purchases.;)
I save cartridges for when I travel. Back in my university days, I found that My Mont Blanc or Pelikan easily held more than enough ink to get through the day. So I got into the habit of filling my pen each morning. I've kept that habit to this day.
I was actually thinking along the lines of Optimo or Adventurebuilt. I just got a couple of hats from Optimo. They're the softer felt I prefer, and I was able to get exactly what I wanted. I just had to pay for it.
My Beaver custom fedora from the Fedora Store cost a little less than the what...
I've no doubt that is true, as far as a factory hat is concerned. Fortunately, there are still a few custom hatters who are considerably more flexible -- but also considerably more costly.
One thing, I bought one of the Beaver Brand custom fedoras. It's a nicely made hat, but it is quite stiff in the western fashion, rather than the soft felt I prefer.
Oh man, sorry we have to miss it. Have a commitment. Teaching a class in the East Bay and won't be done until about 10:00 pm -- and by then I'll be completely wiped out -- not as young as I used to be.
But it sounds like a kick. Have a great party.
