I think you're right about it being fingering weight. I have this pattern, which also calls for that yarn, and the gauge is 7st/in on #3 needles (probably old needle sizes). Beauty Complaints
Here's my beauty complaint- my head is too big for off-the-rack wigs! So I can't even resort to that! I love the idea of being able to have short hair just for a while, but no dice unless I want to shell out real money for a custom size. &%^#! giant melon-head. -

Grow hair out for 30s 'do?
That curly bob is adorable and would look great on you! BUT, if you know your natural hair type would look bad unstyled in that cut, and you're not inclined to want to mess with your hair every day, you will be saving yourself a world of hurt by skipping it. I had to learn this the hard way... -
Another question about hair--taming the mane.
The reason they were using an acid rinse was to neutralize the PH after using an alkaline, soap-based cleanser. It's not necessary after modern shampoos, they are PH balanced anyway. That said, I sometimes use a much milder vinegar rinse on my hair (1 tablespoon vinegar per cup water), it's... -

My hair is never baby-soft and silky, but it is completely uncooperative on washday. If I'm setting it, I'll do it the next night or later, after misting with water/setting lotion. It's big and fluffy on washday, goes its own direction and does not take no for an answer. -

I did a rag-curl set a while back and posted it on the hair-do thread, let's see... here it is. (scroll down just a tad) I had good luck with it; it's a good way to deal with longer hair, and it was very comfortable to sleep on.
