I have noticed that on a number of vintage hats in France, the monograms are similar to the ones in your photo, small letters attached to the sweatband like a staple. I have never found anything about them, and I don't know if we can find them nowadays nor how to call this kind of marking.- frenchgentleman

I must admit that when I go to "general" thrift stores here in Paris, most of the fedoras I see are black. It depends however, because some of these stores are more specialized than others, and in these we tend to see more colorful hats. All I can say is that my grandfather had two hats (Flechet) from around 1943, the first in navy blue, and the second in a taupe/gray color. I do agree with what TheDane and ManofKent have said. The problem with most ready-to-wear modern hats will be the low crown if you want a "film noir" hat anyway. I have no Akubra Federation IV myself but if you want to stay in ready-to-wear maybe this would be the best alternative? You should...- frenchgentleman
