G'c,
That Vanson is looking great. While I personally would not have taken sandpaper to it...and was a little nervous about how it would look before I saw the results, I think you did a good job. It's definitely not looking like a "new" jacket anymore. Wear it in good health!
I have a size 44 Vanson Model B in competition weight cowhide, and it fits slightly more snugly than the Vanson Enfield in a 42, and it does taper a little more. I used to own a Comet in a size 44, which also fit more snug than the Enfield in a 42. For reference, for off the rack sport coats and...
I think that handwarmer pockets on cafe racers are very convenient. One thing I'd keep in mind if you want to maintain the sleek look is to make sure that they have zip closures, so that if you're seated the pockets don't gape open. This will also keep things from falling out. Just my .02...
I think your best bet--unless your goal is to have a brand new jacket--is to get one on ebay. If you have a jacket that fits you well I would just use that as a rough guide for sizing; most auctions will have measurements listed. Just do a search for "leather cafe racer" and you are sure to see...
I once owned a Mercury in the Firenze leather, and found the leather to be very dull and cheap feeling, and sold the jacket. I currently own both an Enfield and a Model A in the competition weight leather, and can say with no reservations that it is some of the nicest leather I've seen used in a...
Peacoat,
I'm glad to see the Enfield has finally arrived! It looks great and the fit seems perfect. Enjoy it in good health! There's nothing quite like the feel of super thick Vanson Competition Weight Cowhide!
Looking forward to seeing pics. I love the Enfield, I have one in black as well. My toughest jacket for sure--I find the competition weight leather on mine to be almost twice as thick as the FQHH on my Aero HG-5. And that windflap is out of this world! Mine has leather lined outside pockets as...
And I'll confuse the situation yet further...I think I heard the same thing regarding sizing and location of manufacture, but the Vanson Horsehide Ike Jacket that is currently selling on Orvis' website is not number sized, but appears to be made in the USA...
Hi Peacoat:
Vanson sizing is all over the map as far as I can tell. The Enfield fits me perfect in a size 42, but I take a 44 in the Vanson Comet. I think the Enfield is more true to size however. For off the rack stuff, I'd say 42R stuff fits me best, and I wear size L in most t-shirts and...
Hi folks:
I've now figured out how to embed images in my posts...(thanks to a fellow FLer)
Here's a picture of me in my Vanson Enfield, size 42, black competition weight cowhide. This is probably my favorite jacket. Very classic and clean design, very heavy, but just feels very good when it's...
Up for sale is a nice "vintage" Johnson Leathers Cafe Racer in Naked Black Cowhide in a size 42. Fits more like a 40, and is therefore a bit snug on me...
It is worn to perfection. Has a great patina. Check out the sleeve shot! :) Nice thick 3.5-4 oz cowhide (about the same weight as Vanson's...
