Riotous, decadent, excessive . . . the 1920s were an era of lavish, vulgar, complete sensory saturation. Baz Luhrmann’s 2013 adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby, endeavors to capture this feeling of dizzying, glittering hedonism with its vibrant sets and swooping 3-D shots. Joining in with this Jazz Age nostalgia, we present a Vanity Fair tribute to Fitzgerald’s time-honored tale and the decade it immortalized, replete with vintage V.F. covers and imagery, plus archival shots from Vogue and GQ.

Enjoy, old sport.
