I concur with the sellers estimate that this was a chauffeur's uniform - to be accompanied by a matching visor cap.
In the tailoring books of the 30's I have seen examples of such obviously militarily-inspired chaffeur's uniforms.
While they are certainly not that frequent, 500 Pounds are rather pricey. Then again if someone wants to dress his Chauffeur in a period piece, he can afford it. :D

Maybe. But it could as well be a sports suit. There was a huge variety for either type...
