Found an interesting article in the Jan 1949 Kiplinger's Personal Finance.
"Try to get ahead - by putting heat on hatless males"

link

A few snippets from it:

"But the number of companies making and finishing men's felt hat bodies has dropped from 190 to 7 during the past 45 years."

"The Hat Corporation has a new felting process using a plastic fiber produced from casein out of skimmed milk and reducing the need for rabbit
fur in top-quality hats."

"For 1947 Stetson had sales of $29,336,000 and profit of $955,000; the Hat Corporation had sales of $20,932,000 and profit of $920,000."

Nope, it sold on ebay some months ago. As far as I know, it's the only one that anyone on the Lounge has seen.
