A choice I am making.....

I have a new fast food problem that is much more serious.

It makes me sad to find that Carl's jr. now has Hugh Hefner in their commercials. This is a very bad decision and poor judgement.

Hugh spearheaded porno into the mainstream. Prior to his publication, pornography, like druge was underground. You had to go to bad neighborhoods to find it. Only men of ill repote engaged in smut.

Hefner got lucky with an big time actress and his porno pub sky rocketed. He paved the way for the raunchy trash that is published today. It is a very well known story in publishing circles.

Anyway.....I normally patron Carl's every morning for my breakfast. I have chosen to not spend another penny with their company as long as Hefner is in their commercials.

I will be sending a letter to express my feelings. It probably won't have too much effect.

It is a choice.

Thanks for listening.

Well, sad to say you are most probably right. I wouldn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t think your letter will do much.

Personally I don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t eat at Carl?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s. They almost killed my youngest son two years ago when he came down with E. Coli after right after eating there. Of course their high paid lawyers showed that just because my son hadn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t had anything other than Carl?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s food to eat for over 16 hours, he must have gotten it from some other place.

Aaron and I agreed that while I'm working on a serious peice on the Censorship of "Temple of Doom" in the United Kingdom I would do a lite peice on how sex in now almost everywhere... I need to stop logging in cause I keep finding more and more and MORE to write about.

If you use AIM, the Pop-Up screen "AIM TODAY" seems to always have a sex-related story. This morning... "Britney's Been Propositioned - The Pop Diva has the opportunity to bare it all." Netscape's homepage has similar stories... such as the release of the Paris Hilton Tapes.... Tapes? Yes... now there's a second.

Today the top story is again about Micheal Jackson, while this storyScholars Discover Parts of New Testament gets burried.

Now, Hef is hocking burgers for Carl's Jr. What's next? An Unrated version of Disneys "The Little Mermade" with full-frontal nudity of Areil?

This isn't the world my parents grew up in... it's not the world I grew up in... and it's going to get worse.

I disagree with none of this. And I know that saying "it's going to get worse" in no way shows a lack of faith. But can we not affect even a small change by positively influencing those folks we encounter everyday? I am trying to smile more, and be upbeat in even the most mundane event like a trip to the hardware store. Even this very small gesture can be of good to someone. If it brightens their day for that moment, it has the potential to grow into an hour, or maybe the rest of the day. Then if they share their new good feeling with another, then so on and so forth.

Yes, there needs to be more than just good feelings, but isn't that a good place to start. What's MK's line? All it takes for evil to triumph is for a good man to do nothing? Let's all try to not do nothing. All of our small gestures can make a big difference. In closing, consider a lunch meat sandwich. What is more appealing (or effective)? A thick slab of ______, or shaved ______ piled high. A lot of a little is so much more than a little of a lot.

Maybe not, but as I am constantly reminded by you MK, "All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing". Thanks for your example. Even though we don't have Carl Jr's up here, I'll send one off too. I'm sure McD's will be glad to have my money when I'm down in your neck of the woods.

Not every individual does or even necessarily has the potential to dramtically change the course of significant issues. Presidents, Religious Leaders, etc. But dont let us forget that firstly, there are people behind them as well. And secondly that although I as an individual may never be able to change say the states attitude euthenasia or even a fast food company's advertsising techniques, does that mean I am to do nothing? If I do something, it may have no real impact, but it will impact the people around me - they are the things I can affect. I always like the phrase:

"It is just a drop in the ocean.... but the ocean is made up of drops".
