This is worth reading, and listening to, in it's entirety - particularly Brown's post-war recovery and association with Hollywood stars (like a young John Wayne).

A doctor once told Albert Brown he shouldn't expect to make it to 50, given the toll taken by his years in a Japanese labor camp during World War II and the infamous, death-filled march that got him there. But the former dentist made it to 105, embodying the power of a positive spirit in the face of inordinate odds.

I've always found it so disheartening that so many think WWII happened, and was won in Europe alone. If anyone would like to immerse themselves and understand just how brave these Bataan survivors were, and the gritty fight they put up with substandard equipment, blunting the cream of Japan's Imperial forces, they should read, "Bataan Our Last Ditch by John W. Whitman. I can only say it's the most stunning account I've ever read.

I was "introduced" when I was young to a fellow who also was on the death march and he despised the Japanese for what they did to him and his fellow soldiers, sailors and Marines. He was sent to Japan to work on Toyota military truck. Yup, he HATED toyotas.
