I am a great fan of the works of the British novelist Alexander Baron who did most of his best work from the late forties to the 1960s. He started out writing war novels, based around his own experiences, then moved on to 'London' novels. His novel 'The Human Kind' was made into the film 'The Victors'.

He is a wonderful writer.

With permission from his son, I have established a facebook paghttps://www.facebook.com/groups/324933094375991/e to keep people up to date on new editions and events celebrating his work.

You should. 'From the City, From the Plough' is a wonderful book. It is the one British war novel that veterans have told me reminded them of the realities of war. It's just a pity that, in literary terms, WW2 is best remembered by Waugh's 'Sword of Honour' trilogy or POW escape stories. Baron's work has a ground-level sense of humanity that is genuinely touching.
I'd be most surprised if you don't enjoy it.

Well done, I'm sure you'll enjoy it ... although you'll miss out on the introduction and postscript from the most recent edition which gives lots of historical background.
