Art Fawcett Straw

This is about 900 wpsi minimum, achieves 1,000 or more wpsi in the crown and a retailer would probably represent it as 1,000 wpsi. I think Art obtained the body through Panama Bob (Robert Weber).

Art uses a really nice premium leather for the sweatbands, very soft.

These pictures and those of others that have a Montecristi blocked and finished by Art Fawcett are going to be spread throughout the 'Art Fawcett Hall of Fame' thread and the 'Panama Hat thread', so you may have better luck searching through those threads looking for Art Fawcett in the Panama thread and looking for Montecristi (or panama or llano weave) in the Art Fawcett thread.

Outstanding Montecristi, Marc. Have you tried to research the pencil notations in the crown? It may be possible to determine the identity of the weaver, or at least the weaving family. Even half a century ago there would not have been too many weavers producing such masterpieces of toquilla weaving.

The brim width is a little over 2 5/8" and the crown height is 4" at the front and 4 3/8" at the highest.

The material does feel like fabric, it's soft and pliable and has a feel that I can only describe as almost sensual. In the beginning I was concerned about wearing a 900 wpi hat, but I've worn this hat everyday for the last five weeks and it's become only more comfortable. You do have to be willing to let the hat do what it wants to do. It takes on its own character.
