While browsing through the classifieds I came across this ad.

Argo is a bootmaker from Japan that I have never heard of before.

The Anchor model appeals to me.

Few but nice leathers to choose from (CXL, Maryam horse ****, Wicket & Craig latigo). Choice of soles from Dr. Sole and Vibram. They mention on the homepage that the boots are hand sewn welted. Possibility to specify your own measurements and some details (color hardware, height of the shaft, toe box ect.). All this at a very competitive price.

That sounds almost too tempting to be true.

Now my question: Has anyone already had experience with this maker? I would be delighted if you could share your experience here.

Only information I got was from Masa - he worked for Clinch and lives now in Germany. He said that they used to be a repair shop but he didn't know they started making boots.

I am trying to get some engineer boots ill report back.,

They seem basically unknown outside of the Japan, but the same boots would be 1.5-3x more in the US.

Not a huge fan of the broguing on the heel but at least makes their service boot stand out a little bit.

These look real nice, how did you go about ordering them? I think you might be close to the same size as me, what size did you go with?
They are 7. I bought them second hand from mercari thru a proxy.

They would be an interesting choice that's for sure.
A mate from FI ordered some engineer boots from Argo. Wait time 7 months.
160€ extra for Maryam.
~600eur base price.
So ~750eur Maryam Argo engineers + shipping costs.
Not sure if they will be friendly as far as value declaration goes, otherwise the import tax hammer will string hard and true. In that case we are looking at around 1000eur for a pair in total, otherwise might be around 800eur.

I had the opportunity to visit the store a few days ago, it is tucked away in Gifu and was almost 2 hours away from Osaka, I enjoyed waking thru the neighborhood as it was truly something different from the main cities in Japan

I made a reservation for an hour but ended up taking almost 3 hours! I ordered a pair of engineers, sandals, and a belt

The boots felt, looked, and are crafted amazingly, I got measured in person and we ended up going half down from my brannock size. He will modify the boot to accommodate my low instep and narrow heel, I asked him if he thinks adding pinky toe space is required for my foot (something of which I suffer a lot and limits which boots I can use) but after measuring my toes twice, he told me adding the pinky toe space during lasting will be actually negative since it will make my feet slide forward, at least for the round toe last the toebox is very accommodating

I went with his type 2 model, extra arch support, black horsebutt from Maryam, dark brown edges, and a black cork half sole from Dr. Sole

Waiting times are one year right now, but being MTM and at such low prices, I find it worth it
