I picked this one up today, and I know nothing about it. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Knowing that I have the exact same hat it is an army officers (w01 to cw5 or higher ) the hat is probably from the very late 50's to 1970's. The same basic hat was worn till a few years ago but in the early to mid 70's the styling on the service cap changed to a more LAPD like style then that of a crusher serge service cap style.
the service cap was recently replace by those dumb regulation black berets for all ranks E1-010. the only army service men I know of that still wear it on duty are military police on special security detail like the pentagon or Fort Meyer. I also have that Mp white service cap with yellow and green band. This is what i'm talking about

Thanks Metro

I know next to nothing about them, but I found it while looking through a pile of hats. I was in search of a dress hat. I figured it must be older because inside the hat it states that it is "Imported Fur Felt". The maker is Bancroft in Framingham Mass.. On the leather sweatband stamped in gold "U.S. ARMY APPROVED CERT. NO. 1-089-b".

Hey Bud-n-Texas, nice hat. I'm glad others are showing their military hats. This seems to be a field grade cap since it has the vents on the sides. What a shame theychanged the style.

1 May 1957 was the date of the Army Green Uniform; essentially what you see today. So your hat can date from at least that time. That's when the WWII type uniforms that we know and love were replaced. Judging by the Fur Felt Construction I would say your hat is earlier rather than later. Late 1950s maybe? It seems as if the eagle is a little small but that could just be the camera. Still, good find as the army will shortly be switching out of the Army Green Uniform all together.

Trotsky, you and Douglas know far more than I on these type of hats. Thanks for your input. I have been a hat lover since I can remember, so this one just looked like it needed a home. There are many stores in this area that have loaded dump bins with hats for the upcoming Halloween. There were many ladies hats that are probably of value to some on here, so far I have not been bitten by the ladies hat bug (God Forbid). I doubt I will pursue the military hats any further, I do have my fathers hat and his Dolphins, so this is a nice comparison item.

When I was in grade school I used to rumage through the dump at West Point. That was a lot of fun and I think I still have a hat or two from that dump. I wish I could do that now.
