This is the second exhibit that I curated for the graphic design studio /gallery I work for in Toronto, called 54east. The 54east studio is the storefront for the ThinkTankToronto group - http://www.thinktanktoronto.ca/
The show is entitled the 'Art of the Album Cover'. I had a lot of fun creating this and in turn learned so much about the history of record albums.
Thought I'd share some images of the show here on the Lounge and invite you to visit the online gallery of photos I took of the exhibit.

The exhibit highlights the art and the artists who created album covers throughout the years, but also focuses on related vintage artifacts and the process of vinyl (33rpm) and shellac (78rpm) album creation. The key idea behind this exhibit is that album art is actually 'art', and we thought it would be appropriate to actually frame real album covers. We were lucky in that a local framing shop wanted to sponsor the exhibit and they framed everything we gave them (over 70 albums) for next to nothing.
Because we were on a tight budget for this show, it depended a lot on how resourceful I could be at finding the vintage items. So, about 99.9% of the vintage stuff in the exhibit is either from my own collection, things I found a couple months before the show at yard sales, and even a few lucky 'finds' from the garbage!
The show launched on March 14, 2008 at the 54east studio/gallery.
Thankfully, it was quite popular with the locals and will be continued on until the end of 2008.
