Can't help but notice the large number of these jackets for sale on Ebay. At crazy prices. Ranging from under $100 to around $200. They all look quite nice, and appear to be well made. There was a very positive review of one of the B-10's on this forum, purchased from Ebay. Are these jackets worth a chance? Free shipping in most cases, with 30 day return policy. A good B-3, mouton fur lining, sheepskin exterior, for $175? Are you kidding me?
Don't you mean a shearling B-3 ? A normal sheep hide is sheep skin on the underside with sheep's wool ( shearling ) on the outside. It is reversed to put the B-3 jacket together. Never heard of a sheepskin B-3 lined with mouton.
Here are a couple links... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dunkirk-Br...ator-Fur-Bomber/253875346358?var=553171395715 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-B3-RA...t-Bomber-Jacket/283310027834?var=584194911081 https://www.ebay.com/itm/B10-WW2-US...ort-Flight-Winter-USAF-Vintage-M/222919133904
Mouton is short sheared and processed sheepskin that has been dyed to resemble beaver or seal most often used for collars or sometimes a plush lining.
They don't say (unless I am missing it) what condition these jackets are in. If in very good or better condition, these prices are incredible.
In almost every example, they state "New With Tags", or "New Without Tags". The country of origin for several of these is China, and Pakistan. In addition, several of these retailers state they will "custom make to order in your size", if their sizes do not work. My good friend paid $$$ for a B-3 from G&B, beautiful jacket. I would hate to tell him he can buy one for 1/8th the price now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/RAF-Bomber-Shearling-Sheep-Skin-Aviator-Brown-Real-Leather-Jacket-Outerwear/223331453981?_trkparms=aid=555018&algo=PL.SIM&ao=1&asc=20131003132420&meid=cd47abf4b7744fc0bfe7487fe78d437d&pid=100005&rk=4&rkt=12&sd=283310027834&itm=223331453981&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 In most cases the fur is genuine, in a couple others the fur lining is synthetic: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Men-Flight...et/312414994335?hash=item48bd627f9f:rk:4:pf:0
I don't think so. Here is a B-10 off of Ebay. https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/bob-dong-b-10-jacket-review-with-pics.95101/
The B-3 looks very plush and nice although not historical accurate ( has hand warmers ) if the item matches the photos. That can be the catch considering the very low price. On eBay and elsewhere many times the merchandise received is not on par with what is shown. HD
Yes, for sure. I have been deceived by the seller twice when buying on Ebay, but never had any issues when buying jackets there.
Well, to be fair, this is quite a reputable vintage/repro brand in China, and not some brandless knockoff on ebay.
One of those B-10's is on my short list... So Bob Dong is a reproduction jacket manufacturer, and not just another copy-cat. This is good to know.
Umm, that is a grey area here.... Bob Dong is a quality maker, but their product lines are somewhat 'similar' to certain brands from Japan and US. The patterns of their repro military jackets look remarkably similar to Buzz Rickson or Real McCoy's, they have a premium footwear line which have styles similar to RedWing and the Whites etc. And last but not least.... denims. But then again, these are not patented designs, if you see them as generic items, Bob Dong do make quality items.
You get what you pay for... Also, there has been many an instances, where these online Ebay sellers, use pics they have dropped off the inter-web. So, surprise, surprise when the jacket you receive looks nothing like the Goodwear you thought you were getting for $100.
Both Bronson and Bob Dong make a fine B-10 repro (and MA-1s, B-15 etc...). These are copies of Real McCoy B-10 repros... for a fraction of the cost. Good quality jackets and great buys for the price. The one in the link was unbranded.... Warning bells. If you want a Bob Dong or Bronson jacket (any of them), they are still relatively cheap, available on Ebay, but make sure its what it says it is.... Not a copy, of a copy, of a copy...
I would say Bob Dong according to my own experience, but statistically n=2. My Bob Dong Tanker is excellent, all stitches are perfect where as my Bronson B-10's front pockets are unevenly sewed. But some say Bronson's pattern are more faithful.
