bind the edge of a hat?

i couldn't find the term, but i'm trying to make a hat and I wanted there to be ribbon? around the rim of the brim.
i don't know how this is done or what its called to do it.

It's called a bound edge.

It can be done by hand the trick is to be very patient. You just need to use very close and tight stitches. I have a cowboy conversion I did on which I bound the brim. I believe Deanglen has done quite a few also.
