Unlike Harris tweed, Donegal tweed refers to a style, and not the origin. Here is a"Donegal" by Pendleton, my favorite jacket:

And here is the real thing, Donegal from Ireland by Magee:

Of all the tweeds, Donegal is the "tweediest".

Says who? It refers to the origin.

There are no legal restrictions on the use of the term "Donegal Tweed", so anyone anywhere can use it to describe their product. Much of the Donegal tweed sold today comes from China. Of course, it also is used for tweed actually from Donnegal. I would prefer if they used the term "Donegal Style" for those not made in Donegal. Regardless of the origin, it is my favorite tweed.

I snagged a vintage Harris tweed off of ebay for about 50 bucks. Larger size...should fit me at a 44L. I'm not sure how old it is; I'm guessing it's 1960s because I'm never lucky enough to find an older one in my size. Pictures are from the seller. It has yet to arrive. s-l1600.jpg s-l500.jpg

I got to wear my vintage houndstooth Harris Tweed hacking jacket with Bella on a cold night last week. She seems to like it...[IMG]

You're good Dirk Wainscotting. The jacket was just for show. I would like to drag hunt someday.

This is my first Harris Tweed jacket. In fact it’s my first vintage jacket. It’s a beautiful green colour with double back vents. If I’m not mistaken the label dates the jacket or at least the fabric as been made in the 40’s.

I found it on ebay UK. I was the only bidder no one seemed interested in the jacket.
