found this article on World Street Journal. Attached are mine Lamb skin Motor jacket from Buck Mason. I am in my 50s. l love it. My wife think it’s too short and should be for young guys though.

It's about how you wear it. If you love your jacket, and want to wear it, you'll project easy confidence regardless of age (don't confuse with attitude, although it might work for some guys, depending on many factors). I started my leather jacket journey with cafe racers, because I thought they'd be more neutral for casual wear or more "age appropriate". Now I reach for biker-style cross-zips more often than any other jacket. And I try not to click on the clickbait like that WSJ article. The Fedora Lounge is all you need for a useful perspective...

The "older men should dress appropriately" mentality enrages me. What does it even mean, that one shouldn't wear something? To me, this sort of reasoning, so to call it, translates to please start slowly giving up on life by taking all the appropriate steps to die before dying.

Rock that jacket! I sometimes wear a nice white dress shirt when I hit some spots. It does look good, and I can get in all the places I visit.
When I need to go to a VERY formal event, I wear the appropriate attire for the occasion.

*sigh* I've heard that there are dark corners of the Internet where people are still actively debating the "proper" age for a man to stop wearing blue jeans. America is considered to be a "free" country where people are allowed to do as they please as long as they aren't breaking any laws.

That being said, Kfz you have to live with your wife so, speaking as a man who has been married for 40 years, you have to pick which battles you're willing to fight and which are best avoided. Maybe don't wear that particular jacket when your wife is with you? I think the jacket looks fine on you (though, admittedly, I think MrProper has the better look and physical attitude for that style of jacket) so wear it when you can and enjoy it.

The Hercules is from 1951 I'm from 1952, the Nissan Truck from 1996.

Just hit 50 and getting better. The collection is coming along and finally getting more wears and I just don't give a F* I'm doing what makes me happy. It's amazing how many people dress like complete slobs going out. Wearing pants and nice shoes is already 95% better than what's out there. The jacket is adding attitude, but you need to be comfortable in it otherwise it does show that you're posing. I was wearing my 118 the other day, fully zipped up, rocking the belt and someone said "where's the motorcycle?" I quickly looked them the over. They were wearing sweats, worn down tennis shoes and a really baggy sweatshirt. Keep in mind, this was at a decent restaurant. So I asked them "Why, you need a ride to the gym?"

Funny. I am not normally addressed. May be because I'm almost 2m tall and have a bald head LOL

LOL. Yeah, this was a woman who said it to me LOL. I wasn't in a good mood and usually don't get confrontational, but there was something about the way she said it that needed a proper response. Had it been some big dude, I might not have said anything

And you're right, the compliments to negative looks, remarks etc. is 10 to 1 if not more. TBH, most people don't even notice one way or the other.

Anyways, that wasn't the point. I don't care if it was all negative. I think where I was going was if you wear something edgy, you can't be meek about it or have thin skin. Not trying to promote confrontation as the norm. Just be prepared for some looks and remarks (hopefully complimentary) and be ready to shrug off the BS. And as noted above, this is a different situation in the sense it's the guy's wife, so it's a little tricky.

I have a simple rule: I do not wear anything in the presence of my love that she does not like. And it's the same the other way around.
Fortunately, she likes almost all my clothes.
In this respect, my recommendation to the OP would be to clarify what exactly his wife doesn't like. Maybe she's just embarrassed because she read a stupid article ;-) And in case of doubt, wear the jacket when he is out alone.

Interesting that, at the time I am posting this, there are five "no" votes in the poll; yet, every written response is a definitive "yes."

IMHO, it depends. Certain people rock cross-zips regardless of their age. And, certain people look out-of-place in a cross-zip regardless of their age. I have seen people here on TFL who are plainly younger than 50 post photos of themselves wearing a cross-zip and, IMHO, it does not work for them (in some cases, it really does not work for them and begins to look downright cosplay).

I cannot cogently set forth the defining characteristics that enable one person to rock a cross-zip, and that preclude someone else from doing so. As Justice Stewart wrote in relationship to pornography, "I know it when I see it." @tmitchell59 rocks cross-zips -- so does @MrProper (I only mention them because they posted photos in this thread). They have the overall presence and presentation that melds perfectly with a cross-zip. I, on the other hand, do not have that presence/presentation. When I strap on a cross-zip, I look like I am going to a costume party -- I look like a nerd desperately trying to look cool, and woefully failing. Me wearing a cross-zip is the functional equivalent of a morbidly obese woman wearing a bikini.

Many here believe that anyone can successfully wear any jacket regardless of age or other considerations. I respectfully disagree. I personally believe that, in order to successfully wear certain garments, your overall personality, presence and presentation must jibe with the garment. Otherwise, there is a disconnect that renders even the coolest garments remarkably uncool. Age is certainly one of the relevant considerations, but there are many other factors. People younger than 50 also must consider whether a cross-zip works for them.

Everyone looks good in a well-fitting half-belt. Not everyone looks good in a cross-zip. I certainly do not.
