Can you age/ distress a grosgrain ribbon?

Hey guys, I need some advice here, does anyone have any tips/ ideas on how to make a new grosgrain ribbon look old? As I'm fitting one to to one of my vintage fedoras and don't want it to look odd..

If it is Polyester forget about it.
If it is Silk/cotton or viscose (wood based) then you could:
soak it in tea, let it dry under the sun, wash it, let it dry again and attach the ribbon.
