Love the leg lamp Decodence. My dad wants one but mom is right against it.

We haven't put the tree up yet but we have begun putting out other decorations and some lights. Our three year old is really into what we've done so far. He came in the other night and said, "Ooo, look at the pretty lights," and then began dancing around the room.

The wife knows better than to get between me and my major award. This isn't really Christmas decoration since its up all year, but it is about 25% of my A Christmas Story props/stuff.

I try to resist until at least the first of December. The progression starts with a wreath for the front door, the first week of the month. Then I have some icicle lights that I hang up around the apartment, from the mouldings. Then various doodads in various corners. Finally the tree gets bought in or about the 16th, giving it about 1 week to be enjoyed before Christmas.

Started on the tree last night and ran out of beaded garland halfway down. So my tree is half done. Ha! Going to the store tonight to get some more.

I usually try to wait until the first of December, too, but couldn't wait this year. :)

I'm hitting stores trying to find the Charlie Brown Christmas tree a friend has. I want to use it to shame the rest of the household into getting off their butts and get some seasonal fun going.

Growing up, we did the tree the first Saturday in December, with the outside lights following soon after. This year we just got cleaned up from Thanksgiving, and on that Friday my wife started with garlands, doo dads, the Christmas houses for the mantle, and whatnot. It's because, she claims, our daughter's wedding is in the first part of December and there isn't any time.

I haven't got the tree up yet, and I must confess I'm leaning heavily toward an artificial this year. But for the first time in at least 6 or 7 years I pulled the old trains out of their boxes and set up a little loop with a few buildings. Looks pretty cute, don't you think? These are N scale, meaning 9 millimeters between the inner edges of the track. That makes them 1/160 scale. For comparison, Lionel is about 1/48 scale. So these guys are tiny. There is a smaller scale, Z scale, that's 1/220, but they're REALLY tricky to deal with. These guys are finicky enough.

The little delivery truck is so small it fits on my fingertip.

We have a Border Collie/Aussie Shepherd mix and a big Maine Coon cat who firmly believe that any Christmas tree and all decorations on said Christmas tree are theirs for the taking. As well the tree. So this year I will be decorating the celing with beautiful green and red fabrics and ribbons, and hanging unbreakable ornaments (styrofoam balls covered in sequins and other such eye catchers) from the celing with invisible plastic wire. It totally fascinates the cat, who is cross-eyed, and spends much time trying to figure out how to get them down.

Reminds me of a Sylvester and Tweety cartoon from when I was a child. Never liked that bird.

I seem to recall seeing a documentary on the adoption of Christmas trees into modern tradition. There were pictures of trees suspended from the ceiling. Looked interesting. You'd need high ceilings but it might get around the pet problem.

My cat is named Nitro, and I'm not having a tree this year.

I am really surprised that my cat has shown -zero- interest in our tree. That wasn't the case a few years ago with our other two cats (who have since gone to live with my brother at his farm). Every day I'd come home from work and have to put the tree back together again. Ornaments, lights, etc. would be strewn all over the floor. I tried everything to keep them out of it - nothing worked.

So I am very, very thankful that my current kitty is either too lazy or too aloof to worry about this year's tree!

With a name like Nitro, I can only imagine the havoc in your household. My cat is named Macaroni. You'd think with a name like that, he'd be just a big old furball, with no interest in anything but sleeping... I guess I should have named him Mushroom Cloud.

I climbed up the ladder with him last night so he could inspect the status of the ceiling Christmas decorations, and after a few swats and some sniffing, they met with his approval. I'm sure he and the dog will be behind closed doors while I'm at work today, conspiring to infiltrate this seemingly pet-proof solution.
