I have bought three hats lately for the lovey Ms. Portolan. All three of the hats could use a good cleaning. Nothing major, just spots, grime, etc. These are vintage felts. What do you recommend for cleaning a nice, but dirty fur felt? Thanks in advance, Phil

Phil, I think a couple of the ones you've mentioned might be from myself. This being the case, I can recommend Mr. Graham @ Optimo who does a fine job indeed. He'll call you and talk about the details himself.

Just spots & grime demand a real good brushing with an orange sponge for the serious spots then another brushing. I have this spot remover that you put a pinch on the bad places, work in with another type sponge then brush again. It this doesn't get it done, I consider a hatter. HTH...

An Orange Sponge?

Not sure what that means....I know there are orange (citrus) cleaning agents out there....and there are different color buffer pads for different tasks for floor work....maybe there is the same thing with sponges? What exactly are you referring to as an orange sponge?

Sorry for the confusion...Yep, felt cleaning sponges that Buler pointed too. They are course enough by themselves to get mild smudges off. You can find them on most hat websites in the accessories section. Most western hat stores have them too, at least those around here. HTH

I just ordered some sponges, two brushes

and the dark felt cleaner from a western store!!! And to make the total over $50 to get free shipping, I added some cologne! Now I will be better able to care for this growing hat collection!

Cavenders....They had the best prices when you

consider no sales tax and free shipping. I ordered late this morning and the products are already shipped. I got about five emails from them already. So far I am very pleased. Phil
