Amazing period photos here - thanks all that have posted them, i'm lapping them up.

I'm on the brink of buying one of these and certainly want to look the part.

Of interest may be Mister Freedoms forthcoming collection. If you're familiar with this brand you'll have seen their unique take on 30/40s merchant navy gear - basically clothing based on period items which 'could have been' instead of actual reproductions. The new season is rumoured to be based on vintage motorcycle garb. http://www.misterfreedom.com. There is quite a following on the SuperFuture forum - in the superdenim section.

I've got one of those iron-barrel Enfields. You will spend a lot of time wherever you stop explaining that it is not an old restored bike, but a new one. It's a great bike,as long as you don't expect to be out on the interstate with it (I understand the new fuel-injected ones have a bit more speed to them, though)

Those new Enfields are beautiful; if I lived somewhere more rural (and thus somewhere much safer to be a biker, also where I had a need for private transport), I'd love one. It seems to me that you can get great deals on them on eBay and the likes - I've seen the 350 Bullets (the model I especially like) sell for GBP800, in excellent running order and condition.

I'm really excited to see the Mister Freedom stuff....I take back my comment in the Engineered Garments thread about "inspired" clothing. MFSC is good "inspired"...EG is sort of not. lol

Yes, I can't wait to pick up little beast. I'll post pics in the appropriate thread as and when. Strictly a weekend pursuit for me, I commute into London and traffic can be dicey to say the least so the B roads around Surrey and Sussex should be its natural habitat.

I have an Aero 30s Half-belt I was planning to wear when out and about

Need some decent boots though. Any recommendations? Have been looking at Wesco but have no experience of them.

Beautiful jacket; a 30s half belt in black is on my (hopefully realisable!) wants-list for this Autumn. Is that the cordovan colour on yours? I love how that looks, though I've been put off it by issues with 'bleed' that other loungers have experienced.

Regarding boots, a lot depends on your budget, but the new production Lewis stuff seems to be highly favoured by many in these parts:

I like the look of the WestWay boots, myself, though they aren't exactly cheap! If you were thinking of a more 30s look, I actually think a pair of sturdy drill boots and a set of solid leather gaiters would be a great look.

a few links...

This Repro Moto-duds site has been 'coming soon' for some time now, maybe an email would get a sample of what's to come:

This guy's got all sorts of goodies, including Period clothing:

The following are all a bit off-topic, but could be of some interest...

There isn't a whole lot of info on the SoCal AMCA Chapter's Annual Max Bubeck Death Valley Run other than a registration form, but here's some photos from a past events - it's still going strong and this October marks the 23rd year of this event:

And, of course, any AMCA event is sure to have some vendor pedaling either Repro or Vintage Motorcycle Wear - and the club mags are great for ads / info too:

Last, but not least, Google Books is a great resource for some scanned Moto rags:

Don't own Wesco's but do own a pair of Caterpillar steel toe loggers boots, available in black or brown.
Lined with Cambrelle wicking material, they do keep feet nice and dry in hot weather. Very firm rubber sole in a Vibram pattern, not a lot of cushioning, but a nice fit and look good for riding.
They "feel" very vintage when worn.

Some more reference pics. My dad in the mid sixties when he was a young fella! He still rides fiercly today on his own 'old' custom bikes, which he builds himself.

Just to revive this thread a bit,I have to brag a bit about an eBay jacket I just got today.
I had been looking at vintage leather jackets, and noticed a 'Brando'-style motorcycle jacket. There was no tag,and no identification given for the coat, and just one photo. I bid,and won the coat for $26.
It came, and I started looking closely at it-very heavy leather, black quilted lining, Talon zips, and the remnants of a tag. Could it be a Schott Perfecto?-I went to various sites, and saw that the bit of label seemed to be a '70s-style Perfecto label. The identification was clinched when I saw a tab on the flap pocket which indeed said 'Schott'. The coat was in very good condition with all functioning zips and snaps. Needless to say,I'm quite pleased.

Aye

Aye Sir, it is indeed a W650. A truly great bike.

Helmet is a Bell RT, goggles are Davida T2s and the jacket is also by Davida but about 3 sizes too big ! Boots are period Lewis Leathers ones.

I also use original period Everoak helmets on occasion.
