Mixed drinks are aquired tastes. If a critic does not like something I will try it until I can at least understand what people liked about it.

I'm not sure that owning swanky bar's in NY makes you an expert on what tastes good, or having your own signature cocktail's to self-promote at said bar's is your diploma.
Most of what was discussed seemed to be drinks that had missing ingredients so I'm a bit confused on how they judge a drink that no longer exists and cant be made. A bit of an esoteric excercise in my opinion.
There are plenty of modern cocktails that are very popular that i find horrible, so to each his own.
Disclamer: I've tried plenty of vintage cocktails that made me wonder what were they thinking....Id have to be desperate to get drunk to drink this. Some others that were delightful.
