Vera Lynn, the Forces' "Sweetheart". RIP.
Yes, Dame Vera Lynn, has finally gone to meet them, she doesn't know where but at least she now knows when. She was 103.
Thanks for posting. My goodness. Vera Lynn. I had no idea she was still alive. She is as indelibly stamped on the popular image of WWII As Churchill himself. What iconic songs. 103. What a long life. I will certainly toast her tonight and again listen to some of her wartime classics. R.I.P.
Such a life, and such a lady.
The Voice of the Greatest Generation
Couldn't have said it better Mr Brunswick. A very sad day indeed.
Tough one this. Versatile British actor, Sir Ian Holm CBE, has died aged 88.
My goodness yes, very sad.
I first saw him in Time Bandits, where he played a height-conscious Napoleon meeting the time-travelling little people. LoTR of course, but my favourite role of his is in the quiet little film Big Night (1996). It is my second favourite film and I highly recommend it.
Sir Ian plays an Italian restaurant owner, Pascale, flamboyant and full of life, and hoping to lure away from their own classic restaurant Primo and Secundo, Primo being the classic food loving chef who considers Pascale's version of food "the rape of cuisine".
This film is well worth checking out if you can find it, and it will be even more bittersweet to watch from now on.
Costume Designer/Director Joel Schumacher has died at the age of 80 after a year-long battle with cancer.
Marvel Comics artist Joe Sinnott, who to my mind (and many others) was the best inker for Jack Kirby's amazing pencils, including their classic long run on Fantastic Four:
Carl Reiner, 98. I first knew about Reiner as Alan Brady on the Dick Van Dyke show. He became a giant in the entertainment industry as an actor, director, writer and award winner. On June 29.
R.I.P., Linda Cristal.
Obits for the great Carl Reiner:
Carl Reiner - incredible man and great actor. Just saw It's a Mad, Mad...World the other day. Tweeted right up to the end wish Mel Brooks a Happy Birthday! Will be missed!
I really hoped he'd make it to 100. What a brilliant comedy mind.
I hope I'm wrong, but I won't be too surprised if Mel Brooks follows him before too long. Rest in peace Mr. Reiner, and thank you!
I read an article recently (within the last couple of months) that related they have (had) dinner every night for the last couple of decades. Mel is probably pretty torn up.
Johnny Mandel, composer of M.A.S.H. Them song, dead at 94. R.I.P.
Sources say they've been best friends for 70 years, so I'm sure you're right. This will likely leave a large gap in Mr. Brooks' life.
