Disclamer: Nobody here is getting ANYTHING for touting the SStran AMT 3000 low power AM transmitter! Except for the possible gratification of enabling another person to indulge in the enjoyable hobby of collecting and using antique tube radios from the Golden Age.

Mine is my main source of home entertainment -- 78s are broadcast during the day, and vintage radio programs at night. I cover almost a mile to the north and about half a mile to the south, so I might have other listeners -- I know my next-door neighbor tunes in from time to time.

Currently clip my ipod to the speaker terminals using alligator clips. Not the same, but not bad.

With coverage such as this you should get a small mixer and a good microphone and do some scheduled programming. Put a network feed on the internet, others can broadcast it, and it's the WEAF experiment all over again !

I'm playing with a Talking House transmitter and need to resolve some issues. Range is not one of them. An AMT 3000 may be in my future in any event, based on what I can determine here and elsewhere.

I'm in the "I *want* one" category.

I built a Radio Shack AM wireless transmitter when I was in High School and had a great deal of fun with it.

It would be nice to have a real professional rig like the AMT3000 now that there's almost nothing worthwhile to listen to on the AM band.

Like I said in the other threads, I had never heard of them until today. I am quite happy with my RediRad prototype, but I will say that the option to have them on all my radios vs only 1 is pretty appealing.

Well I've soldered electric guitars and other electronic gizmos so I figure if I take my time I should be okay. Plus I saved 50$ in doing so.

I did take a look at lowpoweredradio for their assembled ones, but then decided to take on the challenge. Interestingly enough it looks like the owner of that website ran afoul of the FCC. Here's the complaint:

I guess that's why they're sold in kits along with FM transmitters.

great box, been using one about 5 yrs - tried two other AM xmitter kit brands out there, neither worked without drift (no fun chasing your music around the dial)

Interesting. You can go to the famous auction site right now and find oodles of unlawful radio devices, many capable of wretched interference with legitimate devices. Too bad Mr. Ryan lacked the clout of the Chinese. I guess by properly assembling "clean" transmitters he brought us all to the edge of a regulatory abyss. Or something.

It's a great little unit. I had a really nice homebrew antenna setup for mine. I took it down for some landscaping and haven't put it back up yet. With my antenna, I was able to get a clear signal out to about a mile and I could still pick it up on my car radio at about two miles.

I also have a small homebrew tube transmitter. I have plans for a tube-based carrier current transmitter that I'm going to build one of these days...
