Donegal Tweed Cap

I was rummaging through the shelves at Goodwill yesterday and picked up a couple of nice items. A couple of hand-blown martini glasses in blue, a vintage box of 78s ... Ink Spots. And a driving cap. The label reads Donegal Tweed, hand woven in ireland, etc. I can take a pic of the label later and post it. The size of the cap is too small for me ... probably along the lines of a 6 1/2 or so. And the previous owner loose-stitched the brim together for some strange reason, but that's easily remedied. I knew it was too small when I bought it, but for 99 cents ... why not?

Will post a pic by tomorrow, as I'm curious about the age. I just wish it was a bit larger, as I really like the greenish-brown tweed pattern.

Here's a pic of the label. Looks to have an actual inked signature by the weaver (K. Boyle). Cap looks to be machine stitched. No date on the label at all. Any ideas as to the age? 20 years? 40? I know absolutely nothing about the company or about tweed weaving at all. [huh]

I have a Shandon hat just like that.

It is the first 8-panel cap I have ever had, and it is a great hat.

Seems to be 100% wool. No idea about the age though.

I have an 8 panel from the same company as well. It was given to me by a friend's sister who bought it in Ireland a few years ago. You can find the exact same ones on eBay, new with tags. Now, the company may go back 20 to 40 years, so there's no real way to determine the hat's age, but they do still sell them. The ink signature was probably written by the previous owner.

Modern nice wool hats

They are modern, currently woven hats. The signature is who made the hat in Ireland. It is a sign of quality to have the person making the hat proudly sign it. I have two or three. You can get them all over.
