Dryclean?

A friend said he was sending his newly acuired vintage to the drycleaner. Ra ther than betray my ignorance i merely nodded. Did I do him a disservice?

Vintage hat? Tell your friend it's a bad idea.
There's plenty of info on this forum regarding hat cleaning...
send it to a professional hat cleaner and even among
those pick carefully.

I had a Stetson Whippet that went to the dry cleaners at the beginning of my hat collecting days. It came back stinking of dry cleaing chemicals and it changed from a gray to a kind of purple/gray. Needless to say it is still in the box and still stinks to this day. [huh]
In short, it is probably not a good idea to send a vintage hat to the dry cleaners. :eusa_doh:
