  3. I check eBay 6-10 times a day and I still miss out on these. Beautiful hat: hope it shows up here.

Has anyone ever sold a hat and the buyer requested you ship it in an ENVELOPE!?!?

This is a bit confusing, or maybe disturbing. Someone should buy it just so it can be rescued.

Yes! It is. The “Whipped Fedora” is what caught my eye. Please tell me more about this Plastic Felt. I saw the pieced construction, and thought it was a modern, low-end hat. Instead of laughing, should I be bidding?

Yes... follow the link to see more photos and read more details. The hat is constructed with cloth hat techniques from an interesting mixture of materials. In my experience, examples of this short lived WWII era experiment do not come up for sale often. Also, in my searching (when I was searching more actively), the most interesting finds often came from sellers who were not as familiar with terms and details that I have committed to memory. Maybe a smile instead of a laugh. ;^)

Thanks, Alan. I consulted the thread, and it was quite interesting. I was not aware of this piece of history.

Thanks... I think one of these will be good for me. But it is an interesting example of American ingenuity from a time when some raw materials were likely difficult to source (kinda like now)... and when "plastic" had some positive marketing power - before it acquired the negative baggage that the word often carries now.

I have a similar Stetson that has amazing felt. The stingy brim is not my favorite, but that hat gets a decent amount of head time.

It's my first vintage 3x hat so I'm excited, I do wish it had a little more brim on it.

You will enjoy it. The felt just molds to your head and you forget you are wearing it.
