In the "two months in Africa" thread, RBH posted a link to this hat:

http://www.chapellerie-traclet.com/hat/traclet-sylvain-p-698.html

It looked just like the one I remember my dad wearing in the fifties before construction workers were required to wear hard hats, and I had been hoping to find something like that for a long time. I immediately ordered one. It arrived today, pretty fast service considering the company is in France. The shape of the crown reminds me of a Stetson Temple or Akubra Stylemaster, but the similarity ends there. This hat is made from some kind of fabric, maybe canvas. I'm hoping it will be a good travel hat, so I can stick it in my backpack as I fly and then pull it into some kind of decent shape when I reach my destinations. The cost isn't bad: With the Euro to dollar ratio and shipping from France to my front door, the cost to me was $70.

I had promised RBH I'd post pics as soon as it got here, so they are:

That is fast !....
And I might add it looks great on you!

BUT.. what do you think?

Brim...crown ..... we want to know!
Thanks Carlisle and RBH!

RBH, I like it a lot...for travel. It will never take the place of my felt fedoras for every day wear, but now when I come home from interesting places, the pics will have something better than a baseball cap in them.

The brim is 2 3/8. The crown at the very highest is 4 3/4, and the lowest part, the back is 4 1/8.

Come to think of it, I probably will wear it all summer long, since I'm not a big fan of Panama hats, and this one has grommets in the crown to let out the summer heat.

My Vagabond is 2 3\8s... I kinda like it.
Sounds like it will make a great travel hat.
What about the cork in the crown?

I'm not sure what to think about that, RBH. I don't see anything that I'd call cork. There is only a white fabric on the inside:
