    The water acts as a vehicle to transport the glycerol into the hide. Water then (mostly) evaporates from the hide during the drying stage, leaving the glycerol in the hide. I say "mostly", because glycerol binds water very strongly (is a humectant), and some water may remain in the hide bound to glycerol. Glycerol is antibacterial, which is good. It is also an extreme attractant of water, so a hide treated with glycerol will absorb water more readily. For that reason I would not treat my jackets with glycerol, I prefer more hydrophobic treatments.

    True. I have seen several made of leather. That one being a "Branded" may be a thicker, higher quality leather. It may weigh quite a bit.

    The leather ones I viewed, back in around 2003 or so, were fairly thin. Good luck with it if you purchased it. This is one jacket I would overall prefer the waxed cotton version for actual use.
