The water acts as a vehicle to transport the glycerol into the hide. Water then (mostly) evaporates from the hide during the drying stage, leaving the glycerol in the hide. I say "mostly", because glycerol binds water very strongly (is a humectant), and some water may remain in the hide bound to glycerol. Glycerol is antibacterial, which is good. It is also an extreme attractant of water, so a hide treated with glycerol will absorb water more readily. For that reason I would not treat my jackets with glycerol, I prefer more hydrophobic treatments.
Never saw this “riding” style before
Well that is certainly different from any other jacket I currently own. I’ll buy it and let you guys know what it’s like
It’s for “riding” a horse! Cowboys wear ‘em.

This is a Duster - most commonly offered in oiled cotton. I have often wanted one, but just don't know if I could get used to a full-length coat. They are pretty good in rainy conditions.
Here are some more traditional styles:
BUT THIS ONE IS DONE IN LEATHER!
I see a duster and I automatically think “that dude has a shotgun under there”.
Guidemaster Steerhide. Black label.
That one, I bought
Cool. I actually thought about pinging you about it but knew you would see it. It’s a beauty.
True. I have seen several made of leather. That one being a "Branded" may be a thicker, higher quality leather. It may weigh quite a bit.
The leather ones I viewed, back in around 2003 or so, were fairly thin. Good luck with it if you purchased it. This is one jacket I would overall prefer the waxed cotton version for actual use.
