That is a beautiful Borsalino. The condition looks perfect. It also seems to have a curragated sweat liner at the front. Bravo, I have read some where on the Lounge that the feature was a post war addition.

Size 6-7/8 or 7...

Lucky you! But I thought you wore a bigger hat size. :)

This is an early to mid '50s Borsalino, I reckon.

.

depending on which brand and hat.I figured that if it was a bit tight, out comes the hat stretcher.Always better than larger,in mycase.Borsalino tends to be a bit larger on my head. Therefore a size 6-7/8 usually fits well.
Guess i will find out later this week!!;-{)

I find that Borsas run pretty much the same size as older stetsons. 6 7/8 is a little small for me, and 7 is a little loose, i'm somewhere in between so i tend towards the 7 to save the red streak across the forehead.

If you can wear a 6 7/8, you are a lucky man. Those sizes are plentiful and not many people bid on them. You can buy gorgeous vintage hats all day for a steal.

There is a lot to be said
about having a small head

I'm not a very short fella but admit i have a smaller head size. And you are right that smaller hats don't seem to command the prices on e*** or other auction houses.Only wish the funds were there for unlimited buys!!

That liner is apparently from the mid 30s. I have one (a misto, even) that was just resized by Art. They're very nice. very very soft. Mine has a cav-type edge. Looks like yours might, too.

Now, Misto means compound, so perhaps a mixture of hair types?

The Borsa Misto has arrived in the post today!! Amazing hat it is!! I have some more research to do on it's actual age.The information from the fine gentlemen here has helped immensely!! And if it IS a fedora from the 30's ,i'm a lucky guy!!It is in mint condition and looks never to have been worn. The liner says "Misto" and "Pauson-San Francisco".These are the numbers on the white tag under the band:
2590M 47973 6-7/8" M Acciaio nero

The Nero i know means black(maybe the band on the crown??.
Of course, the 6-7/8 is self explanitory.
The rest i know nothing about.Maybe someone else knows.
The hat fits PERFECT!!! And so soft and sweet.Brim is 2-3/8".Teardrop bucket.
I will shoot some new photos friday.Until then here are a few i posted before.
