    My Hufvud Bogart

I have been really pleased with the overall process of ordering my first bespoke fedora. Working with Mikael at Hufvud was a pleasure. His communication was outstanding, he answered all of my questions promptly.

Upon receiving my hat shipment, I opened the package with excitement and anticipation. The hat was shipped in a hat box with a custom Hufvud bag encasing my hat. The box had some slight damage from shipping, even though it was clearly marked fragile. When I removed my hat from it bag I noticed the hat was slightly misshapen. My excitement was not diminished at all. The beaver felt quickly regained its shape with little effort. I used a little steam on the brim and it rapidly regained its flange.

The reindeer leather sweatband is the most comfortable of any of my hats to date. The gold embossing on the sweatband is topped off with my name. I chose a black liner and it really contrasts well with the Emerald Gray felt and oak color sweatband.

I chose 30X beaver felt for this hat. The pouncing is nice and smooth with a good hand. The felt has an even gray coloring with green undertones. I also chose a 25 mm blue metal ribbon for my Bogart instead of the more traditional black 50 mm ribbon. The color contrast between the felt and ribbon are exactly what I had envisioned when planning this hat.

I am looking forward to wearing this hat for many years.

Have a safe and blessed weekend.

    Nice hat Steven.
I got the Hufvud Bogart also in grey.....but with the traditional 50mm black hatband. 20210530_105258.jpg 20210530_105307.jpg 20210530_105355.jpg 20210530_105510.jpg

I've bought two hats from him and I wear them the most of my custom hats. They're so malleable without being unstructured. I can put a diamond crease in the morning and change it to a teardrop for the evening. It's perfect for travel, smash it up on the plane, and quickly reshape it. I baby my other hats; I wear my Hufvud.

What caught my eye wasn't the hat itself but the amazing stitching to close up the sweatband. I have never seen stitching like that and it looks evenly spaced. I imagine it was done by hand but so precise. Just looking at it I am having a hard time figuring out the stitching process. I dare say that stitching is beautiful!!!

Real skills indeed and he doesn't stitch a little bow inside on the sweatband.

If I would receive a hat deformed like that I would be mad. Sure you can reshape it but why was it flanged before or preshaped crown? Was it really just in a bag? I think he should secure the hat for shipping better. Sure that you can't get a hatbox all the time but this should not happen.

Thank you! I did ask Mikael and he isn't ready to share how he does things yet and I respect that. He said maybe in 10 years he will start teaching others. He does respond very quickly and I appreciated his response.

Having said that, I think I discovered the pattern and will give it a try. If the stitching wasn't so damn good I wouldn't even try and I have no doubt that his skills are advanced. Maybe on my next hat build, I will give it a try and see how it goes. I tip my hat to Mikael!!

I understand most people might not agree with me, but being upset or mad doesn’t solve anything. It builds nothing, but can easily destroy happiness.

The hat box had supports inside, but the damage to the exterior of the box caused the hat to become misshapen. I don’t think Mikael is responsible for what happened during shipping. The box was a sturdy hat box with good interior packing by my standards. It was marked with fluorescent orange stickers in multiple languages stating “fragile”. Somewhere between Sweden and my house, the box an ultimately the hat took a beating. I could have filed a claim upon delivery or refused the hat. Neither option was worth it to me.

I’m very happy with the hat Mikael crafted for me, and that’s what mattered. I also feel the custom bag was an added bonus.

In all, the bash was easily dry creased in less than a minute. The flange of the brim took a little longer, only because I had to wait for water to boil in my kettle. After moving the brim back and forth over the steam, it regained its flange. No hand manipulation needed.

I will order another Hufvud and I recommend Mikael. His craftsmanship and communication is outstanding.

I didn't want to imply that it was his fault. I just thought that it was unsupported in the box. If the box was damaged that's a different story. Thanks for making that clear.

I could not resist and ordered a custom beaver hat from Mikael. First of all let me say how professional Mikael is. He resonds very fast by email and he has a lot of hat knowledge. He is also very friendly.

I always have high hopes when ordering custom hats but I didn't think it's gonna be THAT GOOD! Style is like any of my other hats, 6" open bashed into a deep diamond crease. 2 3/4" raw brim.

The felt feels fantastic. I have a few vintage hats and mostly american custom hats from Art, Optimo and BSHW. This felt is comparable to the good ol' vintage felts on my 1950s Cavanaugh or Dobbs Twenty from the 50s I have. I do have an Optimo Heirloom Silverbelly and the touch is similar. Very great finish overall. The color is called dark brown rust.

Ribbon work is very nice. The color is called plum and is a very dark purple color that runs nice with the reddish brown of the felt.

I was very happy to order from sweden because that meant no hassle with customs and taxes for me.

And I have finally a custom hat that fits perfectly out of the box. Somehow they are always too tight at first but not this one.

Overall I feel like this is my favorite custom hat so far. Loved the experience and due to Mikaels new order system I waited 4 weeks for the hat.

    Best

    Dear Everyone,

My Facebook Profile, along with the Hufvud Custom Hatmaker group and Page, has been hacked. I have tried everything I can to get it back, but it seems to be lost. I can't seem to be able to contact FB through email or through any of their help service. The Hacked function does not work at all. So these are permanently lost. Good news is, I am setting up a new account, with group and page. HUFVUD HATMAKER.

Should you receive any message or comments from Hufvud Af Harald, then that's not me. The homepage is fine, www.hufvud.com. Business is fine. Years of building a social media presence has been lost in an instant, but that is not stopping me from crafting hats.

If this was a personal attack or just an act of evil, it has not gotten to me. Thank you for all your support. Comments, messages of encouragement is much appreciated. I am always answering email as fast as I can, and I enjoy a good hat conversation at any time. If you could stop by for a coffee, that would be wonderful.

Just to let you know, I started to upload videos to my YouTube Channel to show what the hats looks like. Gives a different perspective than just looking at photos. I am planning to have a new video up every week or when I have a new style of hat to show as well as an update to current styles.

    Regards,

    Mikael
