The film is an example of British drama at its most sublime. While the creative team behind it are all British, it is partly backed financially by America's HBO network.
It has already been shown to huge critical acclaim in the U.S., where it went on to be nominated for 14 Primetime Emmy Awards, and won two - one for the music, and Brendan Gleeson, who plays Churchill, was named outstanding actor. It is to be screened here on BBC2 on November 2.
