Well, despite existing Ivy League rivalries, Press is an American icon. They helped to define the Ivy League look along with Brooks Brothers, and while Brooks has modernized its look in many ways, J Press has not. You'll find lots of undarted, 3-button sack suits, button down collar shirts and the like. The offerings can at times be a bit staid and old-fogeyish. Their quality isn't what one would consider luxe, but they've dressed an awful lot of the rich and powerful (George Bush I, for example). Press is a must for authentic preppy/American Trad.
I just got a nice loud plaid J Press sportcoat back from the alterations tailor. I plan on wearing a button down collar shirt and my square ended knit silk tie with it. If I pull out the tassel loafers I'll be in High Trad, indeed!
