The Winchester Silverbelly does have a bit of grey hue to it. While the Silvermist has blue undertones. I used to have an Akubra Silverbelly and my recollection is it was quite light in colour and perhaps lighter than the Winchester.

It is late evening and I am home to find a new hat. My wife picked the delivered hat up at our other property, drove back and left it on the counter for me. Thanks Mrs. Short Balding Guy. A total treat at the end of a day. Yea!

It is dark, cold and breezy outside. I am wearing the new hat inside. I have stopped by the mirror in the entry way a couple times checking the crease and side profile. After walking into the bathroom a couple of times to check the brim from the front I have called myself to task to quit being to concerned. I hope you hat folks do the same. To my eyes this evening it is perfect.

I am soooo pleased.

Good morning Gannon folks. The Gannon Beachcomer and I have been out for a walkabout this morning.

The Gannon Beachcomer pays homage to the venerable 30's Stetson Beachcomer. The pleated ribbon and color schema are Beachcomer nods. The vents!

The interior is gorgeous. I went with the lighter hued sweat with Mr.Gannon's encouragement. He is right on the mark, as it works so well with all of the parts of this hat. The sweat is treated so it better survives my wearings. The back ribbon treatment is sharp. The liner is removable and I have a Gannon topper that I can put in come warm weather. The topper is a cutout of the top of the Gannon liner. I can attach it to the inside of the hat. This will protect the top of the hat from my bald pate and identify the hat as a Gannon.

Excellent craftsmanship on the interior.

The stitches on the brim are a departure from the inspiration, Stetson fedora, but I believe add oodles of eye appeal. It resembles the "wafer edge."

Thanks Brent. The felt is pounced so "perfect." Crease, uncrease...again and again is easy and enjoyable. The lighter weight, removable liner and vents should make it an easy option to reach for in the coming warmer months. For an hour walkabout in this morning's 18'f weather it was totally comfy.

Eric, that one is stunning. Heck, it's only been about 15 months since I got my last Gannon and he seems to have pushed his hats to an even higher quality and with finishing touches that amaze me. You've got me thinking about another hat.

How to attach?; A couple of strategic placed drops of fabric glue will do the trick. I had a topper from one of Art Fawcett's lightweight fedora come undone. Two sided tape did not work well for me. The fabric glue worked. I was advised not to spread it around like peanut butter on toast. The topper should be glued after creasing. Long ago I glued it in before creasing and had to re-do the topper attachment after I creased the hat. Poor placement and it affected the crease. Placement, size of topper and crease all had their effects.

I have a few Gannon's with removable liners. I like it as I can remove them for warm weather. Indeed I have removed them and gently washed them (Woolite). Having a bald head and putting effort into my hats finds me having washed several Gannon liners over the years. The stitched ones I tug the liner down and gently dip and soap, rinse them in a small bowel by hand. I put the hat suspended on the brim outside . The liners dry quickly and look much better.

It indeed was your ribboned leather sweat that was the inspiration for asking for the feature. I think it looks classy. I will have to see if I can wear it gently so as not to get it to terribly soiled.

The sweatband on the bone felt fedora is a new one for me. I really do like the llighter hue. What sold me was that it is treated. I have a hat with the mushroom hued natural sweat. I have to choose carefully when wear it as my perspiration soaks into the leather.

Wow what a felt hue! The mid ribbon and binding coordinate so well with the felt. The crown appears to be wanting to be touched and creased. I hear it. Very classy, IMO.

This is my first Gannon made from FEPSA 100% beaver felt. This is a 95g lightweight body in the color Tim and Pure Beaver calls flagstone. The open crown is a bit shorter than some of my other Gannons at 6 ¼ inches. The bound brim is 3 inches wide. The felt was shaped dry and it has a great hand. The felt has good color saturation and it is light and very moldable. I’d say this felt is more to my liking than Winchester’s dress weight beaver, but not by a huge margin and I’m not sure it’s worth the premium. However, Winchester has been having difficulties filling orders.
