Velour Finishes

Automatic Hot Wet Brushing Machine: This brushing takes place during felting. This process was originally done manually. Supposedly the automated process never matched the manual process but it's apparent that some manual brushing took place once the process was automated. You can't have Real Velour without this Hot Wet Brushing taking place!

47. At a speed of 3000 rpm, the wheels of the machine "cardinatrice", covered with shark skin, dissolve the ligature felt hair on the surface.

fantastic series. Thanks for putting it together. Fascinating and oddly hmmm nostalgic is the wrong word but I kept thinking of The Swede's glove factory in the novel American Pastoral.
(-:
Karl, Thank you! The museum is in the old Panizza factory building.

Wow, this has been truly fantastic. Almost like being there. I think each of these images would mirror what I would be shooting. I can't thank you enough for this.
Mike, Thanks! I appreciate your kind support!

RJR, Thanks too!

Three cheers isn't enough, Steve. This took a lot of time, and dare I say, love! Fabulous documentation to such copious photos!! Thank you!!!
Charlie, Thank you too! Yes it's very time consuming putting this all together. I appreciate your support! There is probably only one more Part remaining but it will be a really interesting one.

Praise Steve for his work commendable in giving light to the European hatters almost extinct now.
The work done for the Panizza Museum is of great quality and puts every reader in the right to have a real knowledge of the workmanship to get classy hats.
It is essential to have real knowledge of the processes for having high quality made and finished hats.
Steve's knowledge of production processes is of a very high quality, and this is how it is from his posts (and his fantasmagoric collection of hats :)) devoted to the complexity of the workmanship to have a quality hat on our head.
I am only his companion and driver and I can say that I have learned a great deal from the two visits made together in the world of Italian hats producers.
So again, I thank Steve for his generosity for having shared the experience!

Steve, as the others have said: we can't thank you enough for taking the time and effort to put all of this together. The pictures contain a mindboggling amount of information and at the same time raise an equal amount of questions. The more I see of the process the more I am convinced there was a real art to it (and still is of course).

Stefan, Thanks! I think the Velour section in this latest Part deserves special attention. I doubt anyone has seen this machinery in detail before. I also have some great information coming from my Ebriechsdorfer / S.J. Fraenkel Wien museum visit once I finish with Panizza.
