Greetings Everyone,

Yes, I am a new member to this forum.

Yesterday I bought my first proper hat. It's a Pork Pie by "Bailey's" from Beau Chapeau in Niagara On The Lake, Ontario.

The young lady at the counter when I asked said that to clean it if it gets dirty, to use warm water and something soft but grease fighting like dawn dish soap and spot clean it. She also recommended me a water replant spray, so I bought that as well. She recommended spray it once a season, but if I am going to wear this regularly, should I maybe do it more often?

Anyways, I think I am going to keep this pretty minimalist style wish, the only accessorizing I am planning on is a red feather or two, and for now a poppy pin on the brim, until after Remembrance Day.

I look forward to buying more hats in the future, and learning more about them. Nice new world.

I’m new here too I got lots of hats though. I like your new one it’s nice, I would probably wrap my fingers in clear packaging tape (sticky side out) and pat at it to pull off dirt and lint as life goes by but hold off on the soap for as long as you can. Dress it out like you want it and enjoy that bad boy!

Welcome to the Lounge. You have a very nice, first hat. Pork pies are fun hats and you will find several members on the Lounge who lean in that direction, style wise. Unless you get it seriously dirty, a soft bristle hat brush and/or a damp rag is about all you need for cleaning.

I'm new too but i quite like this type of hat. Fits well with vintage suits 1930s

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I wore the hat throughout the day today.

it was rainy, and windy, sometimes very strong gusts of wind too.

the water repellent I sprayed on this morning seems to have done it's job, I literally had water run down from off the hat once, and a friend said he could see the rain beating off it a little as well.

I like wearing it "back" so tilted towards the back, it seems it is a perfect size for me too, not so tight that it feels like heavy squeezing, but it is snug enough still that it doesn't move while nodding or shaking my head, and even the stronger gusts of wind did not nudge it either.
