New Langlitz Cascade in Black Goatskin w/ Brown Stitching

An unexpectedly quick arrival at my door today, my Langlitz Cascade in their black goat with brown contrast stitching throughout. Besides the contrast stitching, I added an inside zip pocket in addition to the standard map pocket and "patch pads" to the shoulders and elbows. I also declined the option to add a snap to the collar, as they sometimes are a bother on the neck. Everything else on the jacket is their standard construction, which includes canvas pockets, underarm footballs and an action back. Scotty was terrific during the process of answering all of many questions. They are quoting an approximate 2 month wait time, but my jacket arrived 14 days after my order was confirmed. (I did use 2nd day air)

I supplied Langlitz with 11 measurements from their guide, and selected "medium" fit. (The options are Very Snug, Snug, Medium or Loose) As this is a dedicated riding jacket, I wanted room to layer including armor. They also took information on how many layers I rode in, my riding position, slope of my shoulders, the type of clothes I wore while taking the measurements, how many layers I would wear under the jacket, height, weight and shirt size. I'm very pleased with the fit.

The goat is identical to the hide on the used Cascade that I had just purchased (which will now be available for sale), already fairly supple out of the wrapper and comfortable. It shipped with a biker magazine, a tub of their conditioner in a leather pouch, a stick of zipper lubricant, Langlitz stickers and a long sleeve t-shirt that I had ordered also. This jacket fits a little looser than the other Cascade, as I couldn't layer under that one comfortably. The stitching looks very nice to my eye, the brown just gives it a little bit of subtle flair. "Patch pads" are simply an additional layer of leather, without the padding added as is traditional with quilted padding. (Just personal preference on that one) The lining is very silky in feel, making it a very easy jacket to get on and off. I didn't add a chest pocket, as many do on this model, as the shoulder pad detail was enough for me on top. I was advised by Langlitz to use the snap on the bottom of the jacket, as its design is to protect the bottom of the zipper from any strain, and not for aesthetics.

Unfortunately with the snow on the ground and frigid temps I will be wearing it to bike shows only for the time being.

That review was as good as any that I have seen in some time. No question in my mind that Langlitz jackets are second to none. I have slowly developed a liking for goatskin. Your comment that the snap is there to protect the bottom of the zipper from any strain, and not for aesthetics, makes perfect sense.

Nice work!
Great review....I'm glad to see it fits and you are happy with the construction. that was a nice quick turn around for you too....can you please post a more detailed pic of the shoulder "patch"? Thanks mate.
Meanwhile in Australia....a dingo just barked and a koala fell out of a tree, and my Langlitz is nowhere near the great southern land.......

Thanks Fanch, and they really are a great group of people to work with, passionate about their work, and still the family, which is one of the reasons I took some extra time to write a review.

Bunyip, in order below, the pad from the front, back and top. I'm not sure why they are torturing you like this, hopefully it arrives before the next Koala takes a plunge.

Great stuff mate! I like the quilted padding, but I think that understated patch looks very classical and for want of a better word " pure". Good work deleting the chest zip, I think that you have your hands on a no nonsense straight up classic. I agonised over deleting the chest pocket on mine, as I've never used it in my life, or half of the other zips and pockets on these jackets either! I kept it as it was standard on the Skookum, and I was actually exhausted from poring through the zillion options on the Japanese site, and was literally getting head aches from obsessing....bloody ridiculous.....
There's a really sharp dark brown cow cascade on ebay right now at a very good price, the specs are very close to mine, I think it might be a bit short at the front....it's also in a long fitting so sleeves are probably a touch long....worth a look all the same...
Thanks for sharing the pics and the review....
One thing is for sure, Scotty and the gang are awesome to deal with, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. I've never seen or handled a Langlitz before, so I'm super pumped to receive mine and hit the highway....
Cheers.

I want to chime in with congrats on the jacket. I especially want to agree with Fanch (as I usually do) on the subject of goatskin. I dismissed it for a motorcycle jacket in favor of heavier leathers; but if it protects as well (as Langlist attests), there's a lot to like in the wearing of that hide. I also agree with Fanch on the review. It's fun (and educational) to latch on to your purchasing experience and enjoy it vicariously. Trash like that keeps me coming back to FL/Outerware. ;)

P.S. I also sympathize with your needing two complete tries to get it right. It's a hassle; but I think, in the end, the pleasure of having it "just so" is more than worth it.

I know what you mean about the Japanese site. It's very informative but there is just so much there it's a bit maddening. It is, however, some of the best jacket porn on the internet. On the Skookum, I think that the chest pocket looks fantastic, because it follows that same line as the snapped back collar... I know what you mean about never using it but IMO it just looks like it belongs.

When I am taking the time to take pictures and post reviews here, I am always thinking about all the great inspiration and information I get from everyone on this site, and feel like it is the least I can do, as we all feed off of each other for new ideas.

Now that your Langlitz sizing is nailed down, you need to buy a Crescent also in goatskin but different color. That way not even close to duplication. ;)

Haha, that is very, very tempting... but I have a Seal goatskin Aero Board Racer arriving in the next couple of days. If that doesn't work out I can definitely see myself grabbing a Crescent. It's Goat Week in eastern PA.

Agreed, do you see what Fanch is trying to do to me? Like I need that kind of help?!

Comparing an Aero BTR and a Crescent is like comparing apples and oranges; the two are only remotely similar. Furthermore you can order your Crescent with a dress collar. If you goggle images of the Langlitz Crescent you will see many options so no duplication. :D

Very nice .. and a great choice of hide ( easilly as strong re sheer and abrasion resistance as cowhide twice as thick ... so the same protection for half the weight and restriction). Looks like a great fit as well .. well done sir, top jacket.

Looking forward to seeing it after a few miles under it's skin ( so to speak) ... should be awesome with a bit of wear if it looks that good brand new :)

PA here are a couple more of the Crescent. No question that Langlitz makes a dynamite jacket and happy to see the company developing a bit of additional traction on TFL. I think that we all enable and corrupt each other on this forum. You really hit a home run with your Cascade and am very impressed. :thumb:
