That question is an easy one: generally cowhide leather sanded on the outside surface to give a suede like feel/appearance.

The zipper and cuffs look fine to me. What the hell is a lateral cinch ?

I don't like them, the cuffs look like they haven't been finished, bulky. I'm refering to the cinchstraps on the side of the jacket.
