Hi,
a while ago one member claimed that SB had charged them the amount of VAT to their order, without stating the above information on their website. Due to that the price increased significantly. Does SB still do that? I know that Aero removes VAT for non-UK orders.

Yes they charge VAT. But they are flexible with value declaration which can help tremendously. Make sure to get thorough QC photos and measurements before they ship the jacket out to you - they almost sent me out a jacket that was completely off from what I requested. It pays to be careful with SB :)

Ok, thanks, so as a matter of fact, in terms of pricing they can be even more expensive than Aero.

I am usually pro SB as I believe they make great jackets, and a lot of the hate they receive should really be a thing of the past by now.

However, if they charge VAT for orders that are not subject to local tax, this is a npo-no. They don´t forward the VAT to the british authorities, so effectively, they increase jacket prices for overseas customers.
Aero took some time to get their processes sorted, but they did, and it´s no rocket science. Just 1-2 hours with a tax consultant and different websites with different prices for local/non-local orders (as a lot of e.g. Norwegian producers have been doing since long before Brexit).

Next, they should declare value as is, otherwise you run into a myriad of other issues if the insured parcel gets lost or damaged or you have a refund dispute with SB.

The declaration thing should be an agreement between both parties with the buyer taking the risk. 33% import tax (where I live) is no joke - worth taking the risk in my opinion.
