Span-Am War Imposter, but a nice OR nonetheless

This recently sold on th'bay for over $100 and the seller, as far as I could tell, was trying to pass it off as a vintage Span-Am War Campaign hat, which it isn't, by a long shot, but it is a nice Open Road with a nice period Cavalry Hat Cord.

The bash isn't bad. The liner would have been d***** hot during the war. The OR I once had went through a phase like this, but my hat cord was a black GAR cord. Thought you guys might just like the pics and perhaps be inspired to consider trying such a treatment. Yeah, right, not in this world!

Did you warn bidders? Or report it to eBay, or set the seller straight as to what he was selling? I always try to do one of those things when I see something that is clearly misleading.

It was just a more extreme cattleman's bash, R, and it came right back into shape with a nice teardrop/tight pinch with a little steam. :D I didn't hurt it. One bit. And Joel sent it to Optimo and they shaped it up nice!

Sorry Dean, didn't mean to sound accusatory. Whenever I see that kind of thing going on, I can't let it go. I keep thinking about the nice people who might get taken in by the ****mers. I guess it makes me look like a class ****-up on eBay though.

One time, a guy was selling a pair of shotguns on there. No joke. I asked him if he understood that wasn't OK, and he told me they were antiques so it was fine, and to mind my own business.

I did nothing, but fortunately someone else must have because 4 hours later his auction was closed...and his account had been suspended.

Since then, I've always told myself that if I spot something shonky on the bay, I have to do something. Did you know that up to 90% of the digital cameras advertised on eBay at any one time don't even exist? It's terrifying, really.

Anyway, sorry for the interruption. Back to the hat...

I just sent the buyer a note

I told him it was a relatively recent Stetson OR, and pointed him to others for sale to compare. Of course, he may have already known it wasn't the real deal and bid anyway. At least this way we know he's been given a heads-up on it.

Cheers,
Tom

Not at all! You were right. I considered it a few times but I figured someone was going to catch on and I waited and by the time I went back to the auction it was over. I waited too long.
