Taylor’s leather sleeve length?

I just ordered a Taylor’s leather large short size jacket. They say the measurement is 34.5” center back collar to sleeve end on the short. I’m concerned it may still be too long. The body length should be ok. I’m just wondering if anyone has one of these jackets to give input on the sleeve length?

The sleeves on my medium long are very long. (I'm just over 6'1".)

I think it's because these are designed to be worn over a whole host of police gear.

I ended up reaching out to them and the customer service is very helpful. I ended up switching to a jacket with a removable liner and they will send it to me and then I send it back with a custom order sheet and they will alter it and send it back to me. I figure I may as well get this done right so I can enjoy the jacket properly, so it worked out for the better because now I’m getting a Brando style with the removable liner like I originally wanted.

Which model did you decide to go with?

With any luck, the jacket will fit, and you won't need any alteration.

Remember that when you are riding, you will reach forward with your arms extended. The sleeves need to go to your gloves . The back has to be longer, to cover the tattoo. You don't want that gap between the waist of your paints, and the hem of your jacket.

I went with the Detroit. I most likely will need the alterations, because the short models aren’t typically in stock so I got a regular large since they are in stock and it already has shipped, so then I’ll be able to send it back pretty quick too. Instead of waiting the month for a short model and then possibly having to send it back anyway. They have a sheet to fill out specifically for the custom orders, so I will review that and do my best to get the lengths right. I’m hoping for the best.

Go to a good tailor with the jacket and custom order sheet. Have the tailor measure you. Even if the tailor charges you a few dollars for his time, it will be well worth it. The tailor may see something from a professional point of view. Or the tailor may just offer to do the work there, in his shop, and you won't have to send the jacket back and forth.

For whatever reason, I thought that you might have chosen the Phoenix model.

I think that the phoenix with all those details at the bottom would have been more difficult to shorten the length of. I actually had asked which models were recommended and then just decided between the three. I like that the Detroit doesn’t have anything loose hanging from the bottom though. Would a place like a men’s wearhouse be good for that? I’m not sure they will know the ins and outs of leather though, depends on who’s there I suppose. I’d have to look around for local tailors.

I tried it on and it’s a couple inches long in the sleeves and 3 inches in the back about an inch in front and has 5” extra in waist width. I put some masking tape to mark it and messaged them to see what’s next. Honestly it didn’t look too bad as is so I kind of felt like if it’s just that much shorter it should be good. It’s tough to get anyone who wants to measure for me like that and not be tailoring it themself, but I think it will be ok.

I’ll post some photos to see what you think…

At least one full size too large. I would send it back to them.
You may be better contacting Johnson's Leathers in California and see if they can make you a nice Cross-zip to your size.
